Seafood Lunch At Makanan Jeti, Simpang Ampat, Penang.

This is a continuation of yesterday's post where we arrived at the seafood eatery named Restoran Makanan Laut Jeti or Jetty Seafood Restaurant at 1249, Bagan Bukit Tambun, 1411 Simpang Ampat. It is located just next to the Simpang Ampat jetty.

 It is a long weekend and a long break for the fishermen.

 Good thing the restaurant still has enough of seafood supply to serve the customers.

 But we were disappointed when told that crabs were not available.

 For starter, we ordered this plate of blanched or boiled Snails @ MYR 10.60

This is my first time attempting to eat these snails.

 I started with this Spiky Snail. Used a sharp bamboo pick to pull out the succulent flesh.

 Next, I tried this. Another type of snail. The shell was not the smooth type but slightly hairy.

 Again, use the bamboo pick to pull out the succulent flesh. It came out easily.

 A closer look...notice the piece of hard lid (operculum) attached to the flesh? This cannot be eaten.

The fish was very fresh and delicious.

Impromptu Trip To Simpang Ampat, Penang.

My friends have been talking of making a one day trip on Tuesday but nothing was decided until Monday night. Thinking that the trip will not take place, I booked an appointment with my hairdresser for Tuesday evening. Just after I have booked the appointment, a message came through to inform that the trip was confirmed. We were to meet in a friend's house at 10 am next morning (Tuesday). I decided not to cancel my appointment with the hairdresser, hoping I will be back on time because I badly needed a haircut.

Praise the Lord! It was a bright and beautiful morning.

We started our day trip at about 10.30 am. 

Initially, our plan was to go south to Genting Highlands. Anticipating heavy traffic and traffic jams due to the exodus of holiday makers after the long weekends, we decided to go north to Simpang Ampat.

 On our earlier to Penang on the 10th June, we stopped at Simpang Ampat to enjoy the fresh seafood. Little did I know that 15 days later, I was back here again with my friends.

This time, we were taken to another seafood restaurant, which is a bit further from the previous place we went to. 

Simpang Ampat is a small town known for its reasonably priced fresh seafood. You can find many seafood restaurants here.

Our friend drove us to the jetty and Makanan Laut Jeti or Jetty Seafood is the place she wanted to recommend to us. It is located right next to the jetty.

We were hungry by now and looking forward to taste the fresh yummy seafood.

Dinner At A New Place Called Kopitiam 1 Curve.

Last Friday, I had lunch with friends at Restoran Yum Yum and we had a satisfying lunch. You can click here to visit the post. I came straight home after lunch because I had something to do. I was just settling down to finish what I needed to do when I took out my hand phone to check for any new messages.

I had a voice message from a friend wanting to know whether we were able to join them for dinner that evening. Before I could confirm with this friend, she had already called hubby to confirm. Our friends had a new place to introduce to us and it is Kopitiam 1 Curve.

Steamed Red Tilapia with savoury sauce. Every place has their unique sauce and this one is also very flavourful too.

Deep fried pork marinated with red fermented bean curd (lam yee). Chili sauce for dipping.

Volcano Eggs - Fried eggs topped with sweet sour minced pork sauce. Children would love this dish.

Tender potato leaves stir fried with salted fermented bean curd (foo yee).

All the above dishes are very appetizing and great for eating with white rice.

Cost of dinner for 4 people including 4 small portion rice,

MYR 59.00 (approx. 13.75 USD)

Fathers Day Dinner At Restoran Wah Xing, Jalan Pasir Puteh, Ipoh.

Our children have all gone back to the city to work and I decided to call my friends for dinner to celebrate Fathers Day. It was a Sunday, a rest day for all of us, both the working and retired. Nowadays, it is a trend for many families to eat out on weekends and many restaurants or eateries will be packed especially it being a Fathers Day.

Hubby and I were here for dinner exactly 2 weeks earlier. The food here is good and the price reasonable. We were at the restaurant at about 6.50 pm and the place was packed. After waiting for a short while, we were able to secure a table for 5 people. Once we were seated, our dinner orders were taken. Service was fast, even with the crowd, we didn't have to wait long before the dishes started to arrive at our table.

 Their signature dish - Foh Yim Pai Kuat - a dish you must order.

Deep fried pork rib with sticky sauce.

Steamed Red Tilapia with savoury sauce.

Deep fried tofu, crispy on the outside and silky soft on the inside. Drizzled with garlic oil, soy sauce and topped with fried dried shrimps and scallion.

 Deep fried eggplant (brinjals) and long beans with garlic, dried shrimp and preserved salted radish (choy poh).

 Stir fried water spinach with prawn paste (belacan).

Total cost of dinner for 5 people costs MYR 76.70 (approx. 17.88 USD)

This included 6 % GST, white rice and Chinese tea for 5 people. 

This restaurant is a few shops away from Eatime or Trishaw Laksa shop. Very near to the Shell Station on the main road of Jalan Pasir Puteh.

Once we finished dinner, we quickly vacate our table for other customers. We then sent our friend back to her house and we stay awhile to chit chat with her.
