This incident happened a week after the New Year. There was heavy downpour with exceptionally strong wind blowing. All of a sudden we heard a crashing sound behind my house. I was in the kitchen and I opened the back window to take a look. Somebody's roof has been blown off and one big piece landed on the back lane.
Hubby was busy closing the air-well windows in the 2nd hall which we used as dinner hall. Suddenly water started pouring through the ceiling of the 2nd hall like a waterfall! Then it dawned on me that it was our roof that has gotten blown off! Quickly we shifted our dinning table away from the rain water pouring down from the ceiling. Thankful that the ceiling of the 2nd hall remained intact and suffered no damage.
We could only pray and wait for the to stop. Meanwhile, hubby called up the contractor and he promised to come over the next morning to see what he can do about it. Our prayer was there will be no rain until our roof has been fixed and that the contractor will be able to fix our roof.
The rain finally stopped about an hour later and the mopping work started. We went behind our house to retrieve the blown off piece of our roof and we noticed that another piece had landed on the roof above our kitchen.
That was the damage done to the roof over the air-well. A few of our neighbours' roof were also affected. Thank God, the damages were not serious and everything was fixed within a short time.
After that, everything was quiet and peaceful. We thank God that there was no injuries except for some minor damages to our roof.
That evening, we went to a nearby restaurant for a light Indian dinner. Hubby ordered roti telur or Indian bread with egg added. It was served with various curry gravy.
I ordered a capati (Indian bread) with spicy sambal.
Our dinner for that eventful evening.
Next morning, the sky was nice and clear.
As usual, we went for our morning walk and after that, we still had time for breakfast.
Hubby's breakfast - pig's stomach with white radish noodle.
My breakfast - pork noodle with fried lard floating in the soup.
Saw this electric bike outside the coffee shop after our breakfast.

Contractor putting back one of the flown off roof piece.
Thank God the contractor and his worker did a good job in fixing our roof and made sure that all were securely fixed.
Another contractor fixing our neighbour's roof. Some of her roof tiles got blown off.
Within a few hours everything was fixed.
That afternoon I went to Mr. DIY store and found this anti-oil splatter.
Testing out the anti-oil splatter when I fried some fishes. It is not very effective because the mesh were not closely knitted enough. Some oil still got splattered through the mesh.

The following pictures (from the National Museum) are for joining Tuesday's Treasures.
Mural of Admiral Hang Tuah, a legendary Malay warrior well known in the Malay kingdom of Melaka. He achieved the title of Laksamana.
Betel Set - includes 5 small containers, a box for sirih (betel-vine leaves) and a pair of gold-plated betel-nut scissors. 2 of the small containers have lids and are shaped like mangosteens. The containers are used to hold the materials for taking betel, namely betel nuts, gambler, tabacco, cloves and lime. The sirih box is for keeping the betel-vine leaves so that the whole set will be organized and tidy.

the anti oil splatter looks useful! It happened in a nearby taman too, many houses got parts of their roof blown off.
ReplyDeleteMy friends' roof tiles were also blown off!
DeleteThank god that nothing serious happened and no injuries.
ReplyDeleteLovely sky shots.
Thank you, Libby!
DeleteThat must have been a frightening experience Nancy, but I'm glad that all is well now and you managed to get help from a contractor. God is gracious:)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Annie! Yes, God is gracious.
DeleteAinda bem que nada de mal aconteceu, aproveito para desejar uma boa semana.

Thank you, Francisco!
DeleteWhat an experience! The wind must have been very, very strong to blow off the roof tile. Good to know that all is well.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Phong Hong!
DeleteGlad all is well now Nancy. I guess the weather got a little cooler for a while because of the rain.
ReplyDeleteYes, the rain helps to cool down the weather.
DeleteSo glad that you and hubby are safe and roof fixed ~ wonderful photos on your post too!

Thank you, Carol!
DeleteOh my what a scary incident! Good thing everything's fine (and you didn't even lose your appetite hehe).
ReplyDeleteHa ha ha...life goes on as usual.
DeleteOh my. That's scary and I'm glad it turned out well. We had our rain gutter blow off during a wind storm several weeks ago. Just on one side of the house, but it was still scary.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you went out to eat after all the excitement. All's well that ends well.
Have a fabulous day, Nancy. ♥
Yes, it was scary. Since that incident, every time it rains heavily with strong wind, I will start praying for God's protection. Happy Wednesday!
DeleteNancy, me alegra que todo este bien. El viento me da miedo. Besitos.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Teresa!
Delete...tile roofs like yours are common here on Maui. Nancy, you find some lovely antiques to share, thank you.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Tom!
DeleteI am thrilled to read all is well with your roof now. The ind must have been strong to do so much damage. Have a good day.
ReplyDeleteThe wind was very strong and I found out later that there was a hailstorm as well.
DeleteSorry about your roof! That would be disconcerting.
ReplyDeleteEverything is alright now.
DeleteGoodness, what a story! I had been trying to visualize your roofs, so am glad you showed us a picture. Our house has just one big roof. Your roof is pretty, what is it made of? So glad you got it fixed so soon! Do you own, or rent? I have that splatter screen! But here is the things about it. It is just as hard to clean it as it is to clean up the splatter around the pan!
ReplyDeleteThe roof is made of zinc (awning material). I don't mind cleaning the splatter screen if it is effective.
DeleteGlad to know you're safe Nancy. Btw, love that breakfast of yours. God bless!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lei. Love to hear from you. God bless!
DeleteIt must have been terrible when the water poured into the room. The wind must have been very strong, because it damaged the roof. It's good that it's already repaired. Your treasures are original and nice. Greetings.
ReplyDeleteEverything is back to normal. Happy day!
DeleteYikes!
ReplyDeleteThank God everything is back to normal!
DeleteOh my Nancy. It must have been so bad for you & your husband. Thank goodness, you were lucky getting everything fixed before another big rain. Here, we have severe cold stepping in these two days. They say the cold chill will be in the -35 F degrees for two days. Car batteries could be destroyed. Thank goodness our cars are in the garage. See ya.

Keep warm and stay safe, Paul!
DeleteWe have had damage to our house and leaks in the roof, but not so bad as this! A good contractor is a blessing.
ReplyDeleteThe National Museum must have some fabulous treasures.
Thank God this issue is considered minor. It could have been worse.
DeleteOh no! The roof was blown by storm!!
ReplyDeleteEverything is okay now.
DeleteI am glad that you have managed to solve the situation without problems. As always the food looks very tasty
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sakuranko!
DeleteHaving the roof blow off would be scary I am glad it was an easy fix
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jo-Anne!
