Our friend has made reservation for a table for 4 people for a traditional Nyonya cuisine dinner at Baba Phang Restaurant, Jalan Sri Bahari, Penang.
We reached at about 6:20pm.
Antique floor tiles in front of the entrance to the restaurant.
As we entered, we were shown to our table.
Menu
They were busy serving customers seated at 2 big tables. After placing our orders, we still have to wait for about 30 minutes for our food to be served. Good thing we didn't have to deal with any growling tummy.
#1 - Jieu Hu Char (yam bean with cuttlefish strips) @ RM20.
#2 - Nasi Ulam (mixed raw herbs rice) @ RM16.
#3 - Kerabu Kacang Botol (winged beans salad).
#4 - Tau Ewe Bak (soy sauce pork) @ RM25.
Sambal Belacan condiment for the soy sauce pork.
First, we will need to squeeze the lime over the sambal belacan.
#5 - Lobak served with chili sauce @ RM15.
#6 - Otak-otak (steamed fish cakes) @ RM10.
Dinner for 4 people.
Dinner is not complete without dessert so we ordered dessert to be served after dinner.
#7 - Pengat - 2 bowls for RM12.
Banana, sweet potato, yam, sago, and etc. boiled in sugar and coconut milk.
It was sweet and thick with coconut milk - delicious!
Total dinner costs RM124.
(Inclusive of 4 glasses of plain warm water + 6% service tax)

Come to me and I will give you rest - all of you
who work so hard beneath a heavy yoke.
Wear my yoke - for it fits perfectly - and let me teach you;
for I am gentle and humble, and you shall find rest for your souls;
for I give you only light burdens.

I love Nyonya cuisine. It's unique taste and flavour.
ReplyDeleteI love Nyonya cuisine too but in Ipoh there is limited choices.
DeleteWhat a beautifully made entrance with the red curtain and the lights and also those tiles are to fall in love with.
ReplyDeleteAnd "Ba BA" sounds very... fatherly.
The food looks like it was worth the wait and the sky-scene gives a quite dramatic ending - to a yummy, nice day! (I´m like really hungry now and have but stupid legumes again).
Thank you, Iris.
