Restoran Gopeng Lai Fun @ Medan Bercham Bistari, Ipoh

Last Friday morning, we went to try a new place called Restoran Gopeng LaiFun @ Medan Bercham Bistari, Ipoh. It has only started business for about 3 months. It is furnished with wooden tables and chairs. I think we were the first customers that morning and my hubby has to ask whether we were too early. What a relieve when they replied that they were ready to start their day's business.
Since we were the only customers at the time, we were free to choose our table. On each table, there was an order form and a pencil for the customers to tick their order.

This is the table menu for our reference when choosing our order. A young waiter came to assist us.

There is also a similar, bigger sized menu on the wall.

This is part of the interior decoration on the wall.

A big picture with a write up of the humble beginning or origin of Gopeng LaiFun.

Pictures on the wall showing the original, simple ways of making Gopeng LaiFun.

I like these two paintings.

A model of a mallet for pounding rice grain placed near the entrance.

Transparent partition separating the kitchen area.

A bowl of rice noodle (lai fun in Cantonese) in clear soup, with bean sprouts and sprinkling of toasted sesame seeds. This is my hubby's order. Does this looks familiar? MYR 1.80 (approx. 0.51 USD) per bowl.

This is my order. A bowl of Special Noodle with minced sauce - dry stirred rice noodle with special sauce, bean sprouts and topped with minced meat and crispy fried beancurd.

At first I couldn't see the noodle with all the topping. I have to part aside the toppings to reveal the noodle. This is non-spicy, tasted good. MYR 4.30 (approx. 1.21 USD).

Then I accidentally found out that with this chili sauce added to the noodle, it tasted even better!

There are 3 types of Special Noodle to choose from:
1) Special noodle with minced sauce,
2) Special noodle with milky curry,
3) Special noodle with hot & spicy.

On my next visit, I hope to try the Hot & Spicy Special Noodle and the Milky Curry Noodle.
2 Pork Crunch, 1 Fried Yam Bean and 1 Squid Ball.
MYR 0.90 (approx. 0.25 USD) per piece.

2 Gopeng Taufu, 2 Tendon Balls and 1 Squid Balls
MYR 0.90 (approx. 0.25 USD) per piece.

Except for the Special Noodle, the noodle in clear soup and the ingredients are same as those in all the Gopeng Kopisan Lai Fun outlets. They are all from the same supplier.

Business Hours: 8 am to 2.30 pm, 6 pm to 9.30 pm.

But if you will look to God and plead with the Almighty,
if you are pure and upright,
even now He will arouse Himself on your behalf
and restore you to your rightful place.
Your beginnings will seem humble,
so prosperous will your future be.

    2. Went there on Sunday 6 th Dec. Only a few tables. But food took ages to be served. Will visit again to see if this is the trend there. Drinks nice but pricey ( by Ipoh standards ) . RM 2.80 for coffee.

    3. We have only been there once. The reason is the distance. Have you tried other Gopeng lai fun elsewhere in Ipoh. They are from the same supplier and the price is cheaper too. Could be due to normal coffee shop settings.

  2. How is the texture of the Lai Fun? Chewy or soft? I like it to be soft.

This new shop is so nicely decorated. Not too complex but full of ambiance.

  6. I like the decoration of the shop and of course, the food too. All looks so tempting. Lai fun is "lo shu fun", rite?

    1. Lai fun is not lo shu fun but both are made from rice flour. Lai fun is longer, uniform in shape, lo shu fun is round in the centre but tapering at both ends.
