Morning Walk In D.R. Seenivasagam Park, Ipoh

One morning, we decided to drive to D.R. Seenivasagam Park and have our morning walk there for a change. The last time I was there was during an office team building event just before I retired. That was about a year plus or 2 years ago.
It was a leisure drive and no heavy traffic on the road.

From the look of the cloud, rain expected in the afternoon.

This place is not as beautiful as it was before. Those days, there were pedal boats, rowing boats and also lots of fishes in the lake.

I hope this place will be restored to its former beauty.

School activity in the park.

4 drummer girls.

5 lion heads on the ground - lion dance.

This tall tree with the orange structure built around it is the Ipoh Tree. Ipoh city is named after this Ipoh Tree. There are currently only 2 Ipoh trees in Ipoh. One is found here in this park and the other one is found in front of Ipoh Railway Station in old town.

The latex of Ipoh tree is poisonous and is smeared on the arrowhead, darts and blow darts for hunting and warfare.
This is a very tall tree and I couldn't get to see how the leaves look like. I hope someone has done some propagation before the trees are gone.

There is a fenced up Japanese garden within the D.R. Seenivasagam Park. This is the plan of the garden.

The sun was getting hot, and so thankful for the shady tree.

There are only trees and grass, hardly any flowering plants.

The place was very quiet with only a handful of visitors.

Saw two families with their children.

White lotus flower and leaves.

Tree with aerial roots growing from its branches.

A closer view of the aerial roots. Could this be the banyan tree?

Parasite plants, Bird Nest Fern (pokok langsuir) growing on the tree. An end to a very fruitful morning walk, especially for me and my camera!

So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as LORD,
continue to live your lives in Him, rooted and built up in Him,
strengthened in the faith as you were taught,
and overflowing with thankfulness.
See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and
deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and
the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ.

  4. Nice park to do brisk walking or jogging with all the greens surrounding it. Beautiful lotus flower and the trees with the aerial roots looks scary though. Hearsay, this type of trees usually got spirits living inside them, how true?

    1. Irene, I don't know about the spirit but I wouldn't want to be anywhere near the trees with aerial roots when night comes. Maybe we have been seeing too many haunted movies...lol!.

  6. Hi nancy, i saw your comment in my chat box, i think that was 2011. hahahha, too old right?

It just made me feel sad that this park has no longer boats like it was used to before, however, still, the place seems relaxing, and if you want o have time alone, i guess the place is perfect to be going with. :)

It seems that there is not much to done to restore to its previous glory.
The Ipoh tree is fantastic, I wonder if this place is the only one where it can be found.

  29. Oooh I have fond memories of this park. It's a stone's throw (well quite a few throws) from where I used to live in Ipoh and we used to go all the time when I was a kid. I visited couple of years back when making a trip to Ipoh and yeah, maintenance could be way better.
