Growing Purple Chili In My Garden

I saw this purple chilies at a friend's house and when I mentioned that I would like to plant this, she gave me a container with many seedlings ready to be separated and re-potted.
The seedlings were transferred into these containers for them to grow bigger.

Some grow faster than the others.

The bigger ones ready for re-potting.

Once re-potted, they started to grow bigger.
Then they started to bloom and the first fruit appeared! Can you see the purple fruit?

This plant has 2 purple fruits.

The fruit is about 1.25 inch long. The stems and leaves have a tinge of purple and the leaves have purple veins.

My purple chili plants are dwarf plants!

They are easily infested with pest and the leaves will shriveled and drop off.

There is a tinge of purple on the stems and the purple veins on the leaves.

When the fruit is ripe, the purple chilies change to orange red chilies. These chilies are not very hot and spicy.

The chilies in the midst of changing from purple to orange red. Some of the leaves of the 2nd plant have curled up, sign of pest infestation.

The fully ripe ones look nice with striking orange red colour.

Now as for you, dear brothers who are waiting for the
Lord's return, be patient, like a farmer who waits
until the autumn for his precious harvest to ripen.
Yes, be patient. And take courage,
for the coming of the Lord is near.

Rawang Famous Steam Fish In Ipoh

We have noticed this eatery many times when travelling to and from Gopeng. And many times especially during dinner time, we noticed the place is usually packed with customers. We have been talking and wanting to try the food here with our foodie friends but nothing happened.

It finally happened and 5 of us were able to meet up at this Restoran Rawang Famous Steam Fish one fine evening.
The restaurant is on the same row as the Symphony Suites.
It is a corner shop next to the RM2 shop.
There is plenty of parking space.

It was a weekday and not very crowded.
The place is spacious and comfortable.
The drinks corner at the back and the menu on the wall.
The payment counter on the left and the kitchen behind the screen.
A giganti rhizomes of Bentong ginger on display.
I am not sure whether it is for sale or not because picture captured by hubby.
While waiting for our dinner, we enjoyed a friend's special tea.
The first dish to arrive at our table - Deep fried fragrant salted chicken.
Signature dish of the restaurant - Steamed Tilapia with Bentong ginger.
We ordered 2 fishes for 5 people @ RM22 for a bigger fish.
The smaller fishes sold out.
Stir fried mix veggie of lotus root, celery, baby corn, mushroom, green peas, gingko seeds and white fungus.
And our favourite - Sambal Petai which truly deserves our praise.
A big thank you to our friend who treated us this yummy & hearty dinner.
Planning to return soon with another group of foodie friends.
He isn't really being slow about His promised return,
even though it sometimes seems that way.
But He is waiting,
for the good reason that He is not willing that any should perish,
and He is giving more time for sinners to repent.

Daydreaming On A Hazy Day

One morning I received a test message from a friend that the haze situation is expected to get worse. And the elderly and young children were advised to avoid outdoor activities and to stay indoors.

Since the haze started, I have been feeling very tired, sleepy and bored! I was actually hoping for the haze to clear so that I could do some gardening which will help cheer me up. But it looked like I have to entertain myself out of boredom.

I was feeling a bit restless after lunch. To take my mind off the haze, I visited my readers' blogs. In one of the blogs, I chanced upon a post on some elegant dresses and cheap evening dresses from ihomecoming.

At the website, I saw this pretty floral evening dress. I like this soft floral prints and I have never worn a one-shoulder dress before.

I imagined myself feeling young and cool in this sweet flowing evening dress.

How about this chic A-line ruffles floor length evening dress? Of all the other ihomecoming affordable evening dresses, this copper red dress attracted me most. I have never had a dress of this colour and I really love this. I think it will make me look fairer and younger too.

I could have my hair coloured to suit this dress or just keep to my natural white crown. Plus I could get a nice pair of dangling ear-rings to go with this elegant evening dress.

I was about to dream on when I was suddenly jerked out of my daydreaming upon hearing my hubby's voice. "Are you cooking dinner or are we going out to eat tonight?" I glanced up at the wall clock above me and answered that it was too late to cook. I secretly smiled to myself for being carried away with my daydreaming but at least I was no longer feeling bored!

Foodie Haven In Menglembu

An ex-colleague first introduced me to the Menglembu's morning wet market where we can find almost anything we wished to buy and the prices reasonable. Recently, another ex-colleague who is also my foodie friend introduced me to this mobile food haven at the same location.

I was told that by around 1.00 pm, the mobile food stalls will begin to take over the market square. The first time my foodie friend brought me here was about 4.30 pm and some hot selling items were sold out!
We both ordered Ice Kacang and were seated at a long table.
A friendly auntie started a conversation with us.
Deep Fried goodies - 2 pieces of yam (taro) and 1 piece of nien ko, both are my favourites.
This messy looking but very tasty thing was the savoury glutinous rice served with curried sardine and spicy cockles. A very filling item!
My foodie friend and I enjoying our snacks and dessert.
After eating these, no dinner for me that evening!
Iced cold, chilling desserts from this van!
Hot and crispy deep fried goodies stall.
The glutinous rice was from one of these stalls.
Few days later, we had visitors.
So hubby and I came here to pack some snacks at about 2.30 pm.
I was told the Roasted Pork here is hot selling.
Customers were queuing up when we arrived.
I too joined in the queue. While waiting, I got busy taking snapshots.
Snapped this while waiting for my turn. These are not all. Saw more roasted pigs at the back of the small lorry.
I noticed he continued chopping when he looked up to talk to his customers.
RM25.00 worth of roasted pork.
RM5.00 worth of kum chin yoke (skewered BBQ layered meat, fat and liver).
BBQ pig's tongue - RM2.00 (hubby wanted to try this).
Deep fried yam (taro) and nien koh (sticky glutinous rice).
The deep fried yam will taste better with a sprinkling of fine salt.
The glutinous rice cake slice is sandwiched between a slice of sweet potato and yam (taro).
Special request by our visitors!
Best taken with piping hot Chinese tea or black coffee!

Dear brothers, you are only visitors here.
Since your real home is in heaven,
I beg you to keep away from the evil pleasures of this world;
they are not for you, for they fight against your very souls.

Cinemas In Ipoh - Now And Before

Today's addition to the "Now And Before" series is on some of Ipoh's cinemas. Most of the cinema buildings are still standing but no longer used as cinemas. To view other postings of "Now And Before" series, you can click here and here.
The Odean cinema at Jalan Sultan Idris Shah (formerly named Brewster Road).
Currently the old Odean cinema building is used as a multi-purpose centre (food and shopping premise)

This old Capitol cinema building has been demolished to give way for a new building block. This photo was taken in 1937.
This funny looking building was the former Grand cinema.
Location: Where Jalan Yang Kalsom meets Jalan Sultan Idris Shah, Ipoh.
An exhibition organized by Ipoh City Council.
(Some of the photos here were taken from this exhibition)
The "My Ipoh - Heritage Trail" exhibition.
The Ruby cinema has been converted to a Furniture Centre.
The old Lido cinema at Jalan Dato' Onn Jaafar (former Brewster Road).

The old Lido cinema building was later used as a restaurant. Recently a new business has taken over the building.
The old Cathay cinema at Jalan Dato' Onn Jaafar (former Cockman street). At that time the surrounding area was not fully developed yet and the road with hardly any traffic except for the few cyclists.

The current road with heavy traffic and surrounding area fully developed.

It has now been converted to a shopping premise.

These are just a few of the old cinema buildings in Ipoh.

You were taught, with regard to your former way of life,
to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its
deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds;
and to put on the new self, created to be like God
in true righteousness and holiness.
(Ephesians 4:22-24, New International Version-NIV)
