Lobak Rice For Lunch At Kafe Zun Seng Fatt, Ipoh.

This post was about last Saturday. It was a cloudy day and we were both in a mood to drive out to town. We wanted to try the food of a newly opened shop in Ipoh old town.
I didn't even realized that it was a Saturday and took it as a normal working day.
Since I stopped working, I tend to lose track of which day is a weekday or weekend. We normally avoid going out to town especially during weekends or holidays.
Hubby was driving around looking for a parking place and couldn't find one. Then I suggested going to eat at his friend's chicken rice shop at the other side of old town. Hopefully we can get a parking space there.
We drove past this new "Container Hotel" along Jalan Sultan Yussuf, Ipoh old town. The creepers covering on the wall gives a green and cool effect to the front of the hotel.
And next to the Container Hotel, these old shops were converted to cafes, etc, some still keeping the old signboards of the former businesses. These creepers were intentionally grown as a screen in front of the shops.
We managed to park our car at Jalan Market. I have posted this "The Happy 8" horse before but at that time I didn't know what it was all about.
A few steps ahead of the horse, we saw this sign in front of a cafe. It is The Happy 8 Retreat Cafe.
We walked to Jalan Bandar Timah and we were surprised by the crowd there.  These people were waiting around the Cendol (sweet dessert) stall in front of the Thean Chun Coffee Shop.
Opposite the coffee shop.....
Why the crowd? We found out that it was Wesak Day (public holiday) and it was also a Saturday.
Lobak or Meat Roll Rice.
We were at Kafe Zun Seng Fatt, the shop next to Thean Chun Coffee Shop. The rice stall was formerly doing business in Restoran Ipoh Kong Heng. They shifted out after the new owner took over.
Hubby's favourite Lobak Rice from his friend's stall.
I wanted to try the Curry Noodle but it was all sold out. So I walked over to Thean Chun coffee shop to order the Chee Cheong Fun.
Because I wanted fast service, I agree to take my plate of Chee Cheong Fun over to the next shop. After our lunch, we took advantage of the cool weather to walk along Concubine Lane.
The Jelly Bar from Bercham has shifted to Concubine Lane.

Ice balls stall....
Souvenir shop - I have visited this shop on my first visit.
Cafe Panglima displaying its menu in front to attract customers.
If you want to go up the steps, there is a fee. Adult MYR 2, Children MYR 1.

Since the Lord is directing our steps, why try to
understand everything that happens along the way?

  3. Hi Nancy, I'm fascinated by the stairway...What is the concept? What happens when you climb the stair? Obviously you will lose some MYR...but what's up there to replace the MYR? No fee going down?:)

I live half an hour from the center of Helsinki, there are people allright. But our house is in a very quite neighbourhoods, one family houses with gardens. If I take a short walk, I'll see nobody!

    1. Ipoh's population is about 758,000 people. I live in a housing estate and it is about 20 to 30 mins drive to the town centre depending on the traffic flow.

  7. Kinda mysterious looking of the hotel with creepers covering almost all over. To indicate the fees on steps is so creative ... like this idea!

  11. I like those steps. What is at the top, and why is there a fee to climb them? Perhaps the fee is tired legs!? I love the Happy 8 horse! What is the story on him? Lots of nice and colorful shops here, I would love to walk around.
