At one time, I had some balsam plants with bright red flowers growing in my garden. After a while, they grew old and I pulled them out and discarded them. All the seeds we have collected were given away to friends. Recently I noticed some balsam plants growing in my garden again. Someone must have scattered some balsam seeds in my garden.
This time they were purple flowers balsam plants. Balsam plants are not fussy and they grow quite easily.
This time they were purple flowers balsam plants. Balsam plants are not fussy and they grow quite easily.
These balsam plants were found growing in the bougainvillea pot exposed to full sun.
This one was found growing from the ground near some flower pots.
This one was also exposed to full sun. It gets watered once a day.
The flowers of balsam plants are delicate and very pretty.
The stems of balsam plants are not woody.
The flowers are bright in colour. The flowers come in many shades of bright red, purple, pink, white, etc.
These are the seeds pods, Once they ripen, they easily explode and disperse the tiny brown seeds.
Can you see the tiny brown seeds from inside the exploded seed pod?
He waters the furrows with abundant rain.
Showers soften the earth, melting the clods and
causing seeds to sprout across the land.
(Psalm 65:10, The Living Bible-TLB)
Nancy, I used to plant Balsam long ago. And I find it exciting to touch the seed pods and they explode hah..hah.... Then they stared growing all over the place due to the dispersion of the seeds. So I pulled them out and did not plant any again.
ReplyDeleteThe same thing happened the first time I planted the balsam plants. Good thing the plant were easy to pull out.
DeleteIt is beautiful! I have never heard of this plant before.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ginny. It is a common plant and it grows easily.

Thank you, dear. Have a great day!
DeleteI don't know the name balsam plants but when I saw the plants in your photos, I said to myself, it looks like bunga keembong. During primary schools, our teachers would ask us to bring bunga keembong to school to study them during science lessons. True enough I found out via google that keembong is balsam.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the name, bunga keembong. I have forgotten this name. Yes, and we even have to sketch the whole plant in our science note book and label the parts.
DeleteI thought this is dark pink..so this is the purple one...nice color...soon you will have more since you have so much seeds :)
ReplyDeleteOnce the seeds started to disperse, the plants will start to grow all over my garden.
DeleteA beautiful plant with pretty flowers, I have never come across this plant before.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mamas. Have a beautiful day!
DeleteLife comes from a single seed.
ReplyDeleteNature is an amazing creation.
DeleteI can't look at the seed pods without my fingers itching to pop them!
ReplyDeleteMaybe some bird brought the seeds... unless you have people who would kindly scatter seeds for you hehe.
Ha ha, neither can I! Ha ha!
DeleteIt is beautiful. I've never seen balsam grow here.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Thel. These plants are quite common over here.
DeleteGorgeous flowers and so special especially as they have self seeded, unless it was the birds who dropped the seeds? Growing when you didn't expect them merits extra attention! Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteWren x
There are a few plants that were self-seeded, mostly are through the birds. Have a great week too!
