Enjoying Charcoal Fried Noodles At Gunung Rapat, Ipoh.

2 Sundays ago, after enjoying our coffee and snack at Lim Ko Pi which I have posted here, we had a late dinner. We waited till almost 8 pm and hubby drove to Gunung Rapat. We went to a place which both of us had not been to but have heard from our friends. This place is just next to the Methodist Chinese Church, Jalan Gunung Rapat. Gunung Rapat, Ipoh.

We reached to find the place filled with customers, some were eating and some waiting for their food. We found a small table just nice for both of us. Our orders were taken and looking around the place, we expected about half an hour's wait. We can afford to wait because we were not very hungry. The first dish came to our table in about 25 minutes.
Deep fried wantons came first. We ordered only 10 pieces. We love these crispy fried wantons. The photos were taken with flash because the place was not brightly lit.
Then about 10 minutes later, followed by this fried flat rice noodle.
This fat round noodle came last. I can't remember the price of the noodles or wanton. Will we go back for the noodles again? Sure! But we will go after the peak time, about 8.30 pm.
While we were waiting for our food, we entertained ourselves with our cameras.
There are 3 cooks handling the Chinese frying pans (Chinese woks) over the charcoal stoves. This is the traditional way of cooking using the old fashioned charcoal stove.
It is claimed that the food smell and taste better when charcoal is used to cook the food.
We saw the 3 cooks frying and sweating non-stop over the hot stoves while we were there. When using a charcoal stove, you can see the fire sparks be flying from the stove.
This is the front view taken from the road side. There are table fans and standing fan to fan the flame and the cooks.
Took this photo of the lighted advertisements at Old Town White Coffee while waiting at the Gunung Rapat traffic lights.

In everything you do, stay away from complaining and arguing
so that no one can speak a word of blam against you.
You are to live clean, innocent lives as children of God
in a dark world full of people who are crooked and stubborn.
Shine out among them like beacon lights,
holding out to them the Word of Life.

  10. The wontons look very good. Around here, people take charcoal tablets for gas! So your meal has an added benefit, ha ha! There are so many Methodist churches around here! I wonder if the Chinese one believe the same as the ones here and the only difference is the country...

  23. That's what I heard, the cooking done with charcoal results in tastier food. I don't know how true is that. Haven't had the opportunity to do a comparison.

    1. They don't look appetizing because of the poor lighting. The place was not brightly lit.
