Instead, be really glad - because these trials will make
you partners with Christ in his suffering,
and afterwards you will have the wonderful joy
of sharing his glory in that coming day
when it will be displayed.

Thinking Of Teochew Porridge.

As I was wondering what to post today, I found these photos of our porridge lunch taken 2 months ago at Restoran Jack Fah at Jalan Russel, Ipoh new town (parallel to Jalan Masjid, formerly Hume Street).

After eating all the Chinese New Year food and goodies for the past few days, I feel like eating something light and plain. Looking at the Teochew porridge which is easily digestible. makes me think of eating some porridge for a change. This was our Teochew porridge lunch taken 2 months ago.
A bowl of bland teochew porridge with sweet potato.
It is a watery rice porridge, cooked till the rice turn fluffy and soft.
And below were our choices to go with the porridge.
Steamed Mackerel (Ikan Kembong) with spicy black bean sauce.
 Stewed sweet sour pork rib.
Preserved salted white raddish & egg omelette.

The Lord preserves the upright but ruins the plans of the wicked.

Dinner At KFC, Silibin, Ipoh.

We had this dinner last month, which was in December, 2016. We drove to the restaurant that we intended to have our dinner but found it closed. Hubby and I were in the midst of thinking of another place to go for dinner when we turned a corner and saw this Kentucky Fried Chicken outlet in Silibin. One of us jokingly asked, "How about KFC?" Another said, "Can also, since its been a long time we haven't eaten KFC." And that was how we ended up having KFC for dinner!
It was about 6.45 pm and we were seated on the 1st floor next to the glass window.
I took the above 2 photos where from we were seated. The round lights that look like the moon in the picture are actually lights reflected on the glass panel.
My dinner set - Cheesy Potato Wedges, a piece of Spicy Fried Chicken and some Potato Fries.
Hubby's dinner set - 2 chicken drumsticks and some Potato Fries.
I love these Cheesy Potato Wedges.
These 2 fizzy soft drinks came with the dinner set.
Saw this promotional card on our table. From this picture, this set looks good for 2 people.
Picture on the wall opposite where we were seated.
We were the early birds for dinner, so not many customers.
Colonel Sanders, the founder of KFC.
We have not eaten KFC for many years and we found that we did enjoy our dinner at this fast food joint.

Being punished isn't enjoyable while it is happening - it hurts!
But afterwards we can see the result,
a quiet growth in grace and character.

Our Reunion Dinner For Year 2017.

I praise God for the rainy season and cool weather. For the past years, Chinese New Year season has been hot and stuffy and I will be sweating profusely as I prepared and cooked the meals for my family. But this year is very different. I didn't even need to use the small table fan in my kitchen. The cool weather makes my cooking so much easier.
The eve of Chinese New Year 2017 was on Friday, the day we all celebrated the reunion dinner as a family. On that day, for lunch I cooked this Jicama dish (Sengkuang or Yam bean dish) as filling for the Top Hats or Pie Tee shells. It is a very simple version. I only used shredded jicama, shredded carrot, minced meat and diced prawns and some garlic for cooking.
Place the Top Hats or Pie Tee shells on a plate. Use a spoon to scoop the filling into the shells.
This Pie Tee snacks plus all the other CNY snacks will be our lunch until our reunion dinner which will be about 6.30 pm
At about 3.00 pm, we stopped at Restoran Rainbow in Menglembu to buy a set of Chinese New Year salad dish @ MYR 68. This is a must because everyone including me loves this salad dish.
Then we went to collect the Braised Stuffed Chickens that we have ordered from Pete Corner with this casserole.

Our family's reunion dinner begins.
This is before adding the peanuts, sesame seeds and sauce.
The colourful combination consist of Salmon slices, 2 halves of lime to squeeze onto the fish slices, shredded vegetables (daikon, carrots, red capsicum, turnip, red pickled ginger, pomelo, lime leaves, Chinese parsley, etc.), jelly fish, chopped toasted peanuts, toasted sesame seeds, crunchy crackers, 5 spices powder and sweet tangy plum sauce.
After topping the salad with the chopped peanuts, sesame seeds and crunchy crackers and plum sauce, it is time to stir the salad until well mixed. The above is my 1st portion of ready mixed salad.
This is the Braised Stuffed Chicken we ordered for our reunion dinner. We used a kitchen scissors to cut the chicken into smaller pieces. We couldn't finish this whole dish, the left over was kept for the next day's lunch.
Blanched Broccoli drizzled with garlic oil and oyster sauce.
And a Steamed Fish.
Here's our reunion dinner for 4 people for 2017.
Thank God for another brand new year!

Jehovah God is our light. I present to him my sacrifice upon the altar,
for you are my God, and I shall give you this thanks and this praise.
Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for he is so good!
For his loving kindness is forever.

Dinner With Friends At DIY Mini Hotpot, Menglembu.

Last Tuesday evening, we were invited to a dinner treat at DIY MINI HOTPOT. It is our first time trying out the food here. It was a cold rainy day and just nice for a hot pot & bbq dinner.
We were early. We reached just before 6.30 pm.
The ground floor has only mini hotpot or mini steamboat. The 1st floor has both mini hotpot & BBQ (2 in 1). Here are the rates. There is a special rate for senior citizens, aged 60 years & above.
Ground floor.
The place is fully air-conditioned.
1st floor.
By the time we finished our dinner, both the 1st and ground floor were fully packed with customers.
An in-built electric stove at our table. On the left is for grilling and on the right for hot pot. We asked for Tom Yum and plain soup base.
It is buffet style.
Checking out the types of food available.
Types of sauces.
These are ready cooked food items. Fried beancurd, fried meat nuggets, fried beancurd rolls and fried chicken wings on the left and on the right are the fried rice and fried noodle.
These are uncooked food items available. Just take what you want and return to own table to  cook these items.
Noodles, eggs, mushrooms, gao zi dumplings, bread, etc.
Fresh green veggie and sesame salad sauce, eggs & dried noodles.
Gao zi dumplings and siew mai dumplings, etc.
Chilled cut watermelon and sweet desserts in the refrigerator.
We started off with some thinly sliced meat. We grilled the meat slices with some butter on top of the parchment paper placed over the griller.
While the meat is being grilled and the food cooking in the soup, I enjoyed a plate of lettuce salad with sesame sauce and some ready cooked chicken wings and roasted pork.

I took some snapshots of wall decorations and hangers but only this one turns out clear.
Notice on their Chinese New Year off days.
By the time we finished our dinner, it was 9 pm. It took us slightly more than 2 hours to enjoy this Hot Pot dinner. Thank you, friends for a wonderful dinner and fellowship.

But if we are living in the light of God's presence,
just as Christ does, then we have wonderful fellowship and
joy with each other, and the blood of Jesus his Son
cleanses us from every sin.
