Since the weather was nice and cool, we decided to join in the crowd as local tourists. We, Ipohites usually avoid the tourist attractions in Ipoh old town during weekends and public holidays. The year end school holidays has started and there has been an increased in the number of tourists visiting Ipoh. It was early and we were able to park our car behind the Hor Yan Hor museum.
As we walked, we took snapshots of whatever we found interesting, just like the other tourists. There are many new additions to the place compared to what we have seen on our previous visits. Come with me and enjoy the walking tour as you look at the snapshots.

Concubine Lane aka 2nd Concubine Lane
A elderly man on a mini scooter enjoying his tour of Concubine Lane.
Very convenient for those who have problem walking.
These are not cute toys but edible buns with filling.
I didn't buy any to taste but I think they are too cute to be eaten.
Succulents for sale.
If you are tired, you can take a seat here to rest your tired feet.
The not so well known "3rd Concubine Lane".
Colourful umbrellas to give us some shade from the sun.
The dark rectangle hole was formerly used for collecting night soil before the flush system for toilets was introduced.
A typical scene of a couple having breakfast in a coffee shop.
Nothing much to see here at 3rd Concubine Lane.

A packet of charcoal oven baked fragrant biscuits (heong peang).
These days, more are switching to electrical oven baking.
This wall painting looks so like the real thing.
Building blocks on a side wall.
This is a very unique washroom or toilet. I should have gone in to take a look. Those roots on the wall are genuine tree roots. This toilet is found near to the Plan B Cafe.
Paintings on the pillar.
Painting on the pillar.
Newly painted and with a red cloth hanging over the door way shows something new is happening here. Can you see the year 1928 on top of the building?
Next to the newly painted building is this abandoned rundown building.
We are hunted down, but God never abandons us.
We get knocked down, but we get up again and keep going.
These bodies of ours are constantly facing death just as Jesus did;
so it is clear to all that it is only the living Christ within who keeps us safe.
(2 Corinthians 4:9-10, The Living Bible-TLB)
I would love to take walk like this and there’s lot to watch through these lanes. Wonderful capture on the old buildings and pretty renovated one and wall murals. They teach us life and lost culture and way of life

ReplyDeleteI ever saw similar cute buns at KSL pasar malam in JB too but I wonder are they nice to eat too?
The wall painting in Photo #16 looks like it got a 3D effect and the toilet looks eerie lah.
Thank you, Libby! #16 was very well drawn. I too will have 2nd thought about using the toilet if I am alone.
DeleteA tour of Ipoh, what a good idea! Now I can really see where you and Claire live! I love the beautiful pillar paintings. and the adorable little cactus, I would have bought several and grouped them. The tiny buns ARE way too pretty to eat. when we are out, I usually have to ride scooters like this, I cannot walk very far. Scooter in the stores as well. The umbrellas in the street are wonderful!!! They are a form of street art to me. The painted jumping children look like they are trying to reach the real lanterns!! This is my favorite post of yours.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ginny! Have a beautiful day!

ReplyDeleteThank you, Betty! You are most welcome!
DeleteI was just there! But how to get to 3rd concubine lane and is there a 2nd lane?
ReplyDeleteThe 2nd lane is the Concubine lane. Don't worry about the 3rd lane, for the time being, nothing much to see yet. It is 2 parallel lanes away from 2nd lane.
