Glutinous Rice Dumplings & Lemang. With Beef Rendang

My Bauhinia Kockiana plants are in full bloom and I think it is because they are happy with the mixture of sunny and rainy weather.
Even my friends and neighbours commented on the abundance of striking orange flowers that can be seen from afar.
After harvesting the pineapple fruit from this plant, there are other shoots growing from the same mother plant. I left them be and wait to see if these will bear fruits too.

Hari Raya Puasa was celebrated by Muslims on the 5th & 6th June this year.
We bought the above "Bamboo Rice" or "Lemang" at RM 14 from a roadside stall on the eve of the celebration.
It is a traditional food item made of glutinous rice, coconut milk and salt, stuffed in the hollow of the bamboo stick lined with banana leaf and cooked over open fire.
The bamboo can be opened into two, lengthwise and the cooked banana wrapped glutinous rice removed from the bamboo.
I kept this half of the glutinous rice for next day's lunch.
From the same stall, we bought a small tub of Beef Rendang @ RM 12.
We only get to eat this once or twice a year.
These traditional food is not sold on normal days.

The Chinese celebrated the Dumpling "Bak Chang" festival on the 7th June this year.
We received the above 3 dumplings (with the leaves wrapping removed) from a friend. Each dumpling had a different flavour. Hubby and I shared these for dinner.
This is an old photo showing glutinous rice dumplings with their wrappings.

The following items are found in the National Museum.
Polished Stone Adze. It is used to chop down and hollow out trees during the Neolithic Age.
Regular trimmings by hubby, fertilizer and the weather brought forth these flowers.
Thank God for blessing us with the abundance of flowers and veggies in our garden.

    1. Thank you, Ginny. First, you will need to find the right type of bamboo and the art of lining the inside of the bamboo with banana leaves before putting in the rice and coconut milk.
