It was a public holiday on the 30th July. We, consisting of 5 people went on a "free & easy" day trip. We started from Ipoh about 8:00 am, had breakfast in Restaurant Pulau Sembilan after picking up a friend. Then we drove to Taiping and had an early lunch in Matang, Taiping.
After lunch, we visited the newly opened Ikea Store in Batu Kawan, Penang and spent around 2 hours at Ikea. Then we had an early dinner at Prawn Village in Bukit Tambun, Penang before driving back to Ipoh.

Initially, we wanted to order "kai si hor fun" but the waiting time was about 45 mins. We didn't want to wait that long, so our craving for "kai si hor fun" has to be put on hold. Sigh!
I ordered this Mee Rebus for the first time and I enjoyed it very much.
Taiping prison built in 1879.
We reached Taiping about 10:50 am and our friend drove us around Taiping town and the Taiping Lake Garden.
Our friend stopped his car so that I could take this snapshot of this mural - tin mining and a "dulang" (meaning tray) washer for tin ore.
Reached Matang town in Taiping about 10:20 am.
We came here for the popular Matang seafood porridge.

Prawns and Chinese Silver Pomfret.
While waiting for the food to be served, hubby went to check out and took pictures of the seafood

We were ahead of the lunch crowd and service was quite fast.
We ordered the following dishes for our early lunch.
Seafood porridge - we requested for Chinese Silver pomfret, prawns, and fish balls.
We ordered this pot of porridge for 3 people which was more than enough for 5 people.
My bowl of porridge - 1st helping.
Deep fried fishes (cai yu zhai in Cantonese) - very crispy on the outside.
Steamed kepah clams or lala.
The thick shells weighed more than the clam meat.
And a plate of blanched green vegetable.
Our lunch for 5 people costs RM 132.00

DeleteLooks good! Taiping was my parents' 'kampung'. But back then there wasn't the internet and this foodie trend, and guess money was also a bit tight. I don't know good places there for food at all.
ReplyDeleteTaiping is a nice place to visit and enjoy some good food. Maybe you can plan a holiday to Taiping one of these days.
