Home Made Coconut Egg Jam (Kaya) & Home Cooked Yam Rice

We were having breakfast at our regular coffee shop few days ago and our friend gave me 2 taros (yam). She said I can do whatever I want with the yam. I kept the 2 taros in my fridge and I will be using one of them to cook yam rice for dinner.

I stopped in between watering my plants in my garden to take some snapshots.
Ixora buds.
Watering for the buds to turn to tiny flowers.
Pink Wishbone flowers in my garden.
Long okras or ladies fingers harvested from my garden.
Home made kaya (coconut egg jam).
Out of the blue, I had the mood to make kaya. I like kaya of this texture as well as the smooth type.

Home cooked dinner.
I cooked yam rice and sent some over to the friend who gave me the yam or taro.
I warmed up the leftover home made bbq pork.
Sambal dried prawns from Penang.
Great condiment to eat with the yam rice.
Very satisfying home cooked dinner.

The Lord lifts the fallen and those bent beneath their loads.
The eyes of all mankind look up to you for help;
you give them their food as they need it.
You constantly satisfy the hunger
and thirst of every living things.
(Psalm 145:14-16, The Living Bible-TLB)

  1. Your yam rice looks so delicious! Thanks for introducing us to wishbone flowers. Ixora flowers are so tiny. I love to eat kaya. Have you shared the recipe for your kaya on this blog before? You use pandan leaves? Because your kaya is green.

    1. Thank you, Mun. Yes, I use pandan leaves extract because I prefer the fragrance of pandan leaves. Maybe I will share the recipe in one of my future post because I need to adjust it further.

  6. In Hawaii, taro and yams are two different things. They look different in color and taste different, too.

    1. Thank you, Gigi for pointing out. Frankly, I am still confused over which is which and I thought there are both the same. Over here, raw yam can cause itchiness to the skin.

    1. I didn't add pork because there is already more yam than rice and I added lots of dried prawns.
