Elderberry Flowers & Noni Plant

This was the last day (30th) of November, 2020. We started our morning walk at about 6:50 am.

The following photos were taken on our walk home after breakfast.
Flowers and leaves of the Elderberry plant by the roadside.
This is the common elderberry shrub with bright white flowers and small, dark berries. The fruits or flowers could cause allergy to some people. The uncooked parts of the plant contain the chemical lectin and cyanide, which can cause nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Though poisonous, this plant has been used in folk medicine.

The juice of Noni is claimed to have medicinal benefits but people with kidney problems and those taking certain medications should avoid noni juice.

And how does a man benefit if he gains the whole world
and loses his soul in the process?
For is anything worth more than his soul?
(Mark 8:36-37, The Living Bible-TLB)

  6. My MIL had a lot of elderberry trees growing next to her apple orchard and used to make a lot of delicious wine from the flowers. I never knew it was poisonous in it's natural state. The wine is much better!
