Long Beans + Sambal Dried Prawns, Fried Anchovies & Porridge

When hubby and I are out early for our morning walk, we get to see the place waking up. One by one we see the roadside stalls being set up and people coming to the coffee shops to get their stalls ready for business.

Morning sky at 7:12am
The early risers will come to the coffee shops for breakfast and some to takeaway. These include people rushing to work and the elderlies like hubby and I who couldn't sleep late.
7:38am
We also get to see beautiful sunrises.
Sunrise at 7:44am
His life is the light that shines through the darkness - and the darkness can never extinguish it. (John 1:5, TLB)
Sunrise at 7:46am.
~~~~~
Back home in my garden.
Long beans hanging down from the vines in my mini garden.
This season we enjoy plentiful harvest of long beans.
~~~~~
Simple home cooked dinner
Steamed freshly plucked long beans without oil.
I added sambal dried prawns to the long bean before serving.
That evening I boiled rice porridge with minced pork, salted egg and century egg, and garnished with spring onions.
Poured out some of the pre-fried crunchy anchovies.
2 cubes of fermented bean curd (fu yue), hubby's favourite to go with rice porridge.
We both enjoyed this simple home cooked dinner.

Enjoy life with your dearly loved spouse all the days of your pointless life
that God gives you under the sun - all the days of your pointless life!
- because that's your part to play in this life
and in your hard work under the sun.
(Ecclesiastes 9:9, Common English Bible-CEB)

  1. your garden is so well kept! I'm so envious. Over here at my house garden, the wild monkeys will destroy the plants and steal the fruits.

    1. A small garden is easier to maintain and I try not to overcrowd it. I had 2 encounters with a big monkey that came to my garden. It plucked off my eggplants and something else, took a bite and threw them back into my garden. Once I tried to frighten it away but instead it bared its teeth at me. Good thing it didn't come back again after that.

  3. The view of the sunrises is enchanting !.
    I am amazed by the idea of your garden growing vegetables including long beans, just pick them ready to harvest and then cook ... the freshness of the vegetables is more pronounced.

  6. Lovely garden. Not mini at all. How do you keep the pre fried anchovies in a crunchy state? How many days can they stay crunchy? Forever?

    1. After removing the head, stomach and bones, I washed the anchovies and thoroughly dried them in the sun. Then I deep fried them and store them in a glass container. After a week, they are still crunchy.
