Steamed Pork Belly With Taro & Sweet Potato Leaves For Dinner

We started out on our morning walk at about 6:35am. We passed under a street light and I couldn't resist taking a snapshot of our shadows. At that hour, there was nothing interesting except our shadows.

We both carry a walking stick just so the stray dogs will leave us alone.
Morning sky at 7:10am.
~~~~~
We had a leaking rain gutter at our porch area and we were looking for a contractor to do the repair but many were not interested. Finally, we found someone willing.
The contractor and his worker dismantled the old metal rain gutter.
The old metal rain gutter was replaced by a pvc gutter pipe.
To keep the pipe in place, it was tied to the pillar next to it.
The hole was patched up with cement and a metal plate.
The pvc pipe will direct the rain water into the enclosed outlet drain below the ground.
The hole was also patched up with cement.
The work was completed in less than 2 hours. The worker was instructed by the contractor to return the next day to check for any leakage of water. On the 3rd day, the contractor came over to check on the finished work. Thank God for this responsible contractor and the job well done.
~~~~~
While the repair work was being carried out, I cut some sweet potato leaves to prepare for dinner.
Sauteed sweet potato leaves with prawn paste and chilies.
We also had steamed pork belly with taro (from frozen pack), steamed long beans with sambal, and steamed rice for dinner. Ready cooked food in frozen packs come in handy when we are lazy to cook from scratch.

O Lord, you are so good and kind, so ready to forgive,
so full of mercy for all who ask your aid.
(Psalm 86:5, The Living Bible-TLB)

  2. I can see why so many did not want to do this. It may not have taken long, but it is quite a job! Have you ever had to use your walking stick on a dog?

    1. I am glad we didn't have to use the stick on a dog. The dogs are smart, they stay away when they see us with the sticks.

  3. The food looks good and great that finally you were able to get someone to fix the leak. We are having a new toilet in the guest toilet put in my a licensed plumber tomorrow if he turns up, expect he will.

  4. Why did many contractors say no to this job? Do they have many other jobs and are busy? Good for you that you found a responsible contractor for this job and got it fixed.

    1. Probably the contractors prefer bigger job. Small jobs like this can be time consuming. If the job is not do well, it may leak.

  6. You are such early birds. :) If I don't have to work up for something, I'd be in bed till 8 or so.

    Frozen food can be yummy also although sometimes texture can be slightly strange.

    1. If not kept too long in the freezer, the texture will not change much.

  12. Looks good! Ready cooked meals from the freezer are our new way of “dining out”. On days when pre-Covid we would say “let’s go out to eat.”

    1. So true, this is minor work and they prefer bigger jobs with better pay. Very few are willing to take up small jobs where they can't charge more.
