Home Grown Veggies And Herbal Soup For Dinner

I am happy that I have cleared all the frozen foodstuff from my freezer and not my freezer is empty. I still have some instant noodles and canned food which I bought before MCO 2.0. For the past week, the Covid-19 cases have shot up in Ipoh and the cases seem to be all over the places. For everyone's safety, we have decided to stay home and avoid meeting up for meals with our friends for the time being.

The following are the dishes I cooked for dinner.

Home grown green brinjals and okra cooked with prawn paste, dried shrimps and chilies.
Blanched home grown sweet potato leaves and fresh abalone mushrooms, drizzled with garlic oil, oyster and soy sauce.
I used the last packet of frozen pork rib and a packet of dried Chinese herbs to boil herbal soup. We had steamed rice with the above dishes for dinner.

I found the following critters in my garden.
This grasshopper was found hiding in the centre of a pineapple plant, hugging a young leaf.
This baby green grasshopper was found on the concrete pillar of my front gate.
And finally, saw this large grasshopper sitting on the okra leaf.
It was a temporary guest, stopping by for 2 days before it was gone.

"Do this instead - start at the foot;
and when your host sees you he will come and say,
'Friend, we have a better place than this for you!'
Thus you will be honored in front of all the other guests.
For everyone who tries to honor himself shall be humbled;
and he who humbles himself shall be honored."
(Luke 14:10-11, The Living Bible-TLB)

  2. Hello, Nancy
    We are trying to use up some of our frozen meals too. The little green grasshopper is cute. The large grasshopper is cool, it has pretty colors and details. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post! Take care, have a happy weekend. PS, thank you for leaving me a comment.

  3. Did green eggplant taste the same like white and purple? That's an awesome homemade meal, Nancy.

  9. Wah, you have sharp eyes to spot all the grasshoppers in your garden. Non can escape your sharp eyes. Are they that easy to spot?

    1. They can be easily spotted as I water my plants one by one.

  10. I have also cleared all frozen food bought for cny from my freezer. Your dinner is so luxurious by my standard because homegrown vegetables are the best! Are you interested to grow mushrooms too?

  12. I too am cleaning out the freezer. There is a box of egg rolls, a beef roast and a chicken left along with 2 bags of diced Tomatillos, packages of frozen corn and beans and carrots. When they are gone, it will be the end of the vegetables from the garden last summer. I don't think any of my meals will be as interesting as yours. We are hoping to plant some of the garden over the next couple of weeks. We are still getting frost in the morning so the tender items have to wait.

  15. The food looks yummy! I hope that even with lockdown you are able to restock your freezer! it was hard finding things for us when lockdown first started last year, but now we only have 3 day lockdowns every now and then there has been no issue keeping the freezer and pantry stocked thankfully! :)

    Hope that you are having a good weekend :) Thankfully it hasn't rained as much as predicted this weekend so we have been able to enjoy time outdoors.

    1. This time I will not restock too much because even with lockdown, we are able to buy foodstuff both fresh, frozen or dried conveniently.

  18. Good to stay at home, cook and eat more at home. The figure keep going up and down. Really worrying with news on mutated virus that is stronger. Sigh.

    Stay safe.

  19. You got some excellent shots on grasshoppers. Keeping the foodstuff frozen for a long time is not a good idea I think, and good that you cleared it now. Covid has gone to the extreme here, and my state is going for night lockdown and full lockdown on Sundays. Hope you stay safe

  21. Good, now you can stock up the freezer again. :)

    Nice way of arranging the abalone mushrooms in a ring like that.

  22. Now I am going to restock the fridge but always end up going to market to buy them fresh... especially for boiling soup...

    1. If it is convenient to buy fresh, it is better than frozen stock.
