In an earlier post, I mentioned how my potted banana tree has started to bear fruit. That was about a month ago.
I wanted to plant a banana tree for the leaves for cooking purposes. As the tree grows taller, the leaves were beyond my reach and I was thinking of cutting down the tree. Before I could actually cut it down, I noticed it has started to bear fruit. What a pleasant surprise and I was overjoyed.
Here you can see the small green bananas.
It actually has 3 combs of bananas on the stalk.
There is one big comb and 2 smaller combs of bananas.
Every morning I check on the bananas. I don't know how long they will take to ripen.
Every banana tree will bear fruit only once.
Before these bananas ripen, the mother plant has already sent forth 2 small shoots coming out from the soil. I will be getting 2 new banana plants to replace this one.

Cauliflower plant growing in another pot.
I am eagerly looking forward to see sign of a cauliflower.
My home grown cauliflower, harvested a few months earlier.
It is very encouraging to see the plants growing well and getting to harvest my garden's produce.

Even in old age they will still produce fruit
and be vital and green.

fresh produce from the garden! how nice!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Nux. Very encouraging when the produce is good.
DeleteSo cool that you grow your own bananas and cauliflowers!
ReplyDeleteI was surprised that I can grow these and get good results.
DeleteThe colors are wonderful, too. Sometime I would love to see a shot of your entire garden, so we can see how big it is and how much room it takes up.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ginny. My garden is a tiny space beside my house.
DeleteYou are indeed blessed with green fingers! It is so nice to be able to harvest bananas and cauliflower from one's own garden.
ReplyDeleteThank you, PH. I wanted to try and see if they grow and they did. I didn't expect much, just having fun in trying.
DeleteHello Nancy:=) It's hard to believe you can grow a banana plant in a plant pot, How exiting that is bearing fruit now, and you will have two new plants. It's equally unbelievable that you can grow a cauliflower!! You must have green fingers Nancy.
ReplyDeleteI am really surprised that I can get bananas from the skinny banana plant. I wasn't expecting much when I planted the cauliflower but was surprised to see quite a big cauliflower.
DeleteNice! Looks like it is all going well.
ReplyDeleteAnd your banana plant is potted, you said? Wow!
Thank you, Dee.
DeleteI would love a banana tree, can use the leaves. Lots of health benefits!
ReplyDeleteSo far I only used the leaves once for grilling fish.
DeleteHow nice to have your own bananas! Hope the cauliflower soon blooms. Have a wonderful day, hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteThank you, Valerie. I have been checking on the bananas and cauliflower.
DeleteIs your cauliflower nicer than the imported ones at the market? I loved the cauliflower in the UK, just boil, add a pinch of salt and eat. So sweet, so fragrant. Maybe because theirs was so fresh...not the ones at the market here. I am not fond of it, so bland, seldom buy.
ReplyDeleteIt is nice if I do not wait too long to harvest. Due to lack of experience, the first one was harvested too late and it was hard and have to cook a long time to soften. The next two were very nice.
DeleteWhat a good head on that cauliflower, well done. I do recall your post on your banana 🍌 tree...the new plant is looking healthy.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Margaret.
DeleteCongratulations on your success with the banana tree. I can understand how happy this has made you. The cauliflower looks great too.
ReplyDeleteThank you, David. Have a great day.
DeleteIt must be satisfying - I still have (bought) cauliflower in the fridge :-)
ReplyDeleteFor the time being, I will have to buy cauliflower from the store.
Delete...it would be wonderful to be able to grow bananas!
ReplyDeleteAt the moment the bananas look small. Hope they will grow bigger.
DeleteAmazing garden ❤
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kinga.
Deletespectacular banana plant and I didnt know they only fruit once.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Betty.
DeleteI love bananas. They don't grow here. I also love cauliflower. Home grown is the very best.
ReplyDeleteThank you for joining the Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Wordless Wednesday, Nancy. ♥
Thank you, Sandee. Have a fabulous day too.
DeleteNancy, we are surely happy to see the plants we have cared for grow.
ReplyDeleteI tell you, in case you don't know, that many people do not cook cauliflower because of the bad smell they give off at that time. One trick to prevent that from happening is to boil them with the saucepan uncovered. You will see that it is a great tip !! ..
Kisses Nancy
Thank you, Norma for the tips. I will remember when I next cook cauliflower.
DeleteVery interesting. My neighbors have banana trees in their yard as well as jackfruit trees and they give us fruits from their bounty. I like your cauliflower, which looks ready for steaming.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Gigi.
DeleteIt must be very satisfying to watch them grow and fruit. It is amazing that the banana tree can grow so well and fruit in a pot. How long does it take to grow until the cauliflower appears?
ReplyDeleteI used to document the progress of the plant but later I forgot to mark the date I planted the cauliflower seedlings and the banana tree.
DeleteGreat cauliflower Nancy
ReplyDeleteCruisin Paul
Thank you, Paul.
DeleteIt is very interesting for me to look at a banana, it does not grow here.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Elena.
DeleteHow lovely to be able to grow your own bananas. The cauliflower looks lovely. I get my fruit and veg from the local veg man. He gets his produce delivered fresh every morning from the local farms.
ReplyDeleteThank you and have a wonderful day. I usually get our supply from the nearby stores or from roadside stalls.
DeleteI never seen banana tree, before.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on and stay safe
Thank you, Dora.
DeleteLovely! I have to settle for apple trees.
ReplyDeleteSince we don't have apple tree here, I will have my banana tree. Lol!
DeleteWahhhh... I love your garden... really fruitful, mam!
ReplyDeleteNot so fruitful now since the weather is too hot.
DeleteOh so cute bananas great garden
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sakuranko.
DeleteHow fun, to have a banana tree of your own, i didn't know they only bloom and produce fruit one time.
ReplyDeleteI too only found out recently.
DeleteCauliflower can grow here, but not bananas.
ReplyDeleteI thought I wouldn't get cauliflower to form in my place before of the hot weather.
Deletelindo árbol de plátano y linfas coliflores te mando un beso

DeleteI tuoi fiori sono bellissimi e che fortuna raccogliere ortaggi dal proprio orto!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lea.
