There was 1 last packet of ready made assam laksa paste which I bought from Penang. It was nearing expiry date, so better to use it before it expired. The paste is enough for 4 people so I informed my neighbour that I will be cooking assam laksa for them too.
My bowl of assam laksa overloaded with toppings with noodle out of sight.
This time I used fresh fish. I bought 4 big "ikan mambong" or mackerel for 4 people. I love lots of fish chunks in the assam laksa.
I also used fresh pineapple. The cucumbers were fresh from my garden. I didn't buy the special laksa noodle, so I used rice vermicelli (beehoon).
Our delicious assam laksa dinner.
Thanks to the ready made paste, this assam laksa is super easy to cook. Will need to stock up on the laksa paste again.

Today, I want to share one of my failed gardening projects with you.
Sometimes, I kept the potatoes too long and they started to sprout. Instead of throwing them away, I thought I could try to grow them in my garden.
Surprising, the sprouts grew well and look healthy.
Actually, I have tried a few times to grow potatoes but failed.
The plants grew to about 2 feet.
I was excited to see the plants started to have flowers. But my excitement was short lived. After a while, the plants started to turn yellow and died. Could it be our weather or the soil or too much water? I hope some experts could give me some tips on potato growing. If I get a sprouted potato, I may want to give it another try before I totally give up. I wonder if anyone successfully grown potato in our local tropical weather.
For there is hope for a tree - if it's cut down,
it sprouts again and grows tender, new branches.
(Job 14:7, The Living Bible-TLB)
Oh dear!!! My girl has started planting potatoes too and they seem to be growing well. I do not have the heart to tell her it is hard to do that in our hot tropical climate. I don't think anything will come out of it - hope she will not be too disappointed.
ReplyDeleteI've a post on our Sarawak laksa coming up!!!
I hope she will have some success. I want to try again, at least one more time before I give up. Lol!
DeleteWah...I like your very luxurious and super loaded asam laksa! I am sorry that your potato project did not turn out as expected. The plant did look very healthy and nice. I have been failing with trying to grow coriander :(
ReplyDeleteThank you, PH. Actually, I have failed with trying a few other projects.
DeleteThat loaded asam laksa looks mouthwatering!
ReplyDeletethe overloaded asam laksa sure looks good! i want to have a bowl too! sorry to hear about the failed potato plant.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Nux.
DeleteI've seen potatoes growing in the only cold to moderately cold temperatures, yet potatoes are cultivated in mountains in our state. Good, you tried your best to grow potatoes in a pot.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jeevan. I want to give it another try before I give up.
DeleteLove your Assam Laksa that is Overloaded With Toppings, so delicious with lots of fish and fresh pineapple. Sorry about your Potato Project. I have no idea how to grow anything. Hope you will try again. Hopefully you will figure out whether it is doable in this weather or not. What type of potatoes do you often buy? I usually buy russet potatoes.
ReplyDeleteI used the normal potatoes from the mini market which has yellowish flesh.
DeleteI'm going to see if I can grow some potatoes. I'll try.
ReplyDeleteCruisin Paul
I am sure you can because I think you have a suitable weather.
DeleteIt is hard to imagine that you have failed at ANY gardening project!! I hope someone knows how to help you!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ginny. I think I will give it another try. Actually, I have quite a few failed projects.
DeleteYour dinner looks fabulous. I wish I was your neighbor that got that for dinner. Yummy.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous day, Nancy. ♥
Thank you, Sandee. That would be wonderful. Have a fabulous weekend.
DeleteAwesome post
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jo-Anne.
DeleteI would have no idea.
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely of you to cook for your neighbor as well.
ReplyDeleteIt may be the soil for the potatoes. Someone i know grows them in our humid, subtropical climate, so it may be more about the soil or nutrients.
Thank you, Mimi. So there is some hope for me to try again.
DeleteIn case you are interested in reading about the cultivation and varieties of potatoes.

Thank you, Norma for sharing the link. Yes, I will read.
DeleteRica pasta y lindas patatas. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteLike the meal you cooked, looks delicious.
ReplyDeletePotatoes like the cold night. Here in Tasmania many farmers grow potatoes for factories and general use.
My great, great great grandfather came out from Ireland as a free settler along with his wife and 2 children (more later) in the mid 1800's and grew potatoes in a certain area of Tasmania, the midlands as we call it. So definitely a cooler climate than where you are Nancy..but good on you for trying.
Thank you, Margaret. Looks like I will have to wait for the cooler weather before I attempt another try. Thank you for the information.
DeleteHmmmm, your food looks delicious! Despite not being a fish-fan I sure would love to give this a go!
ReplyDeleteSorry about your potatoes...
Thank you, Iris.
DeleteMuy bien Nancy, me encanta. Besos.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Teresa.
DeleteI haven't seen a potato plant before! The green part looked quite healthy in your photos. Too bad the plant itself is poisonous.
ReplyDeleteOh what assam paste is that?
DeleteI am willing to try again before I give up.
