For this trip, our friend booked 2 rooms at Hotel Neo Penang for 1 night.
We reached the hotel just before 1pm.
Opposite the hotel is this old coffee shop.
We were told that the economy rice (chap fun) here is very tasty.
Our rooms were on the 15th floor. I forgot to snap photos of the room. For RM130, we had a comfortable room with 2 single beds, TV, air-conditioned, kettle, tea and coffee sachets provided, in the room, hot & cold water, and hair dryer provided.
View from our room.
Dark clouds looming over the island.
Looking down from our room, we can see the roofs of the older buildings.
It is a mixture of old and new high rise buildings.

We rested for about an hour in our rooms and then it was time to go out again for our durian snack.
Durians in plastic baskets.
We went for the non bud grafted "kampung" or "village" durians.
I think we had about 3 fruits with mixture of different tastes.
The durians are of thick creamy textures. ome are sweet and some with a tinge of bitter taste. I love the ones with bitter taste. We were told by our Penang friend to just enjoy the durians and worry about the payment later.
The pretty lady opening the durian fruit with a durian opening gadget.
With this gadget, there is no need to use a knife and save the person a lot of effort.

A banner with their contact numbers.
Opposite this roadside durian stall, there is a stall selling roti canai durian but it was not open at that time. We wouldn't mind ordering some of this bread to try.

The hotel is a very impressive building. It looks like this area has all income and classes of people.
ReplyDeleteLooking at the surrounding area, it is a nice and interesting place.
DeleteNo more durians for me until our next visit to Penang, OK! hahaha
ReplyDeleteHopefully there will be some waiting for you after your holidays.
DeleteWow! What a durian feast! Makes me want to order durians via Grabmart hah..hah...
ReplyDeleteThose were good kampung durians. I am still craving for more. Lol!
DeleteNice hotel. New one? Inexpensive! Been so long since I last ate durian - interesting contraption for opening the fruit there!
ReplyDeleteI am not sure if it is new but cheaper than the previous hotel we rented on our earlier visit.
DeleteWah. Durian feast at the roadside!! Only been to Penang once and that was long ago. I can't remember much of it as it was a short trip.
ReplyDeleteSo it is time to plan a trip to Penang for your next holiday. Lol!
DeleteThat looks like a very nice hotel. I googled durian fruit because I have never heard of it. It says it is the world's smelliest fruit so maybe I wouldn't like it!
ReplyDeleteLol! True, it has a strong smell which some may find it repelling but durian lovers love the smell.
DeleteWish I could taste some of those durians!
ReplyDeleteThose are delicious durians.
Delete...quite a mix of old and new!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Tom.
DeleteYour hotel-view reminds me of Cuba.
ReplyDeleteAnd oh, would I love to taste that fruit!
You could either love the fruit or hate it. Lol!

Thank you, Regine.
DeleteThank you Nancy for showing us this new hotel. Is affordable and adequate. Wow! Really Delicious Durians In Penang. Now I am very tempted to eat durians. I am fine with eating roti canai durian. I think it would taste like crepe durian. Did you go again to see whether the roti canai durian stall is open or not before leaving pg?
ReplyDeleteWe went back the next day for more durians but the stall was still closed. Maybe we were too early.
DeleteGlad you are enjoying you trip!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Valerie.
DeleteNice hotel. Not sure if I've seen durians yet. Great scripture verse. Enjoy the rest of your trip.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Becky. Have a great day.
DeleteI never tried durian although I was in Thailand. Lost opportunity. Gigi hawaii
ReplyDeleteHope you get to try it on your next chance.
Thank you and have a wonderful day.
DeleteInteresting fruit- I had never heard of durians so looked it up- fascinationg- what do they taste like? Have a fun day!
ReplyDeleteMostly creamy texture. Some are sweetish and some have a tinge of bitter. You either love it or hate it.
DeleteMix of old and modern buildings there. Penang durians are generally different from KL, can try different ones.
ReplyDeleteWe prefer kampung durians so we only took the kampung durians.
DeleteIt's nice that you were able to go on a trip!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mimi.
