Hubby knows I love yam rice. On this particular Wednesday, he took me to this food court called Pusat Makanan Enam Enam in Bercham.
The stall selling the yam rice is inside the food court.
I picked some fish and meat balls to be cooked in pepper soup. I also ordered a bowl of yam rice.
You can choose from the many varieties available.
There are many pieces of yam and other ingredients in the rice.
Hubby also ordered a bowl of yam rice.
For the soup, he picked pork belly, stomach and intestine to be cooked in pepper soup. They also have plain clear soup if you don't want the pepper soup. You can also pick vegetables for the soup.
I ordered a small plate of vegetable acar from the roast meat rice stall.

After lunch, we went to buy durians. I don't know the place or the name of the shop. All I know is that there were baskets full of durians placed in front of the 2 shops. The durians were sold at RM5, RM8, RM10 and onwards per kilo. This was about 3 weeks ago. That day, we bought around RM50 worth of durians.
Upon reaching home, we opened all the durians. We ate all we want and packed the rest in containers to be place in the freezer to be enjoyed later. The chilled durians taste like durian ice creams.
I also bought about 3 kilos of mangosteens at RM7 per kilo.
Mangosteen is one of my favourite fruits. Mangosteen is a seasonal fruit and we only get to enjoy it once or twice a year at the same time as the durian season. Unfortunately, mangosteen is no longer a cheap fruit.
The fruit is white, soft and taste sweet. Inside the white flesh is a seed. Be careful not to get the stain from the skin onto your clothing. Not easy to remove the stubborn stain.

If he sows to please his own wrong desires,
he will be planting seeds of evil and
he will surely reap a harvest of spiritual decay and death;
but if he plants the good things of the Spirit,
he will reap the everlasting life that the Holy Spirit gives him.

I would totally go for yam rice with pepper soup. Dunno why this particular combo? Anyway either one also not easily found for me.
ReplyDeleteWe have 2 choices for the soup base. Pepper soup or the plain clear soup.
DeleteI've heard of yam rice but we cannot get that here. I sure would love to try one of these days. The soups all look good - I love clear soups. The acar will make me go for a second helping of rice!!!
ReplyDeleteYes, the acar is very nice.
DeleteA very beautiful and yummy start into the day! I´ve never seen Mangosteen - all I have is cherries. At least they are yummy, too :-)
ReplyDeleteWe can't grow cherries here. Can only buy from the supermarket and they are not cheap.

DeleteThank you Nancy for reminding me that mangosteen is available now. I must go buy some. I like to eat Yam Rice too but not Peppery Soup. So nice to eat both Durians and Mangosteen. I haven't eaten durians this season yet. How long do you both take to eat all the frozen durian?
ReplyDeleteIt took us 3 days to finish all the frozen durian.
DeleteInteresting food. I like the rice and vegetables. Never got a chance to eat durians when I stayed in Thailand. Never heard of mangosteens before. Probably tastes like mango judging from the name.
ReplyDeleteI am sure you will love the mangosteen. Not everyone like durians.
DeleteNancy, how I would like to taste those fruits!

ReplyDeleteThank you and have a great day.
DeleteA sweet, white fruit sounds good. Is the stain it leaves good as a dye for fabric? It sounds like it would be.
ReplyDeleteThe colour of the stain will look very unsightly
