DESIGNING DRESSES FOR FASHION SHOW

Every school going child looks forward to the year-end school holiday because it is the longest holiday.  For this school holiday the Children's Home where my friend and I are helping out, decided to hold a fund-raising event at the end of the year before school reopen. One of the items in this fund-raising event is Children's Fashion Show.  Every few years, this home will organize a fund-raising event.

As usual, the children are so excited because everyone will get a chance to participate. Some of the items are auctioning of donated paintings, beautiful potteries, etc., group and solo singing, dancing and sales of handcrafts.

My friend and I are assigned to come up with the designs for the dresses. Another couple will design suits for the boys. There are other helpers to cut, sew these dresses and suits with the materials provided by donors. The donors brought in beautiful materials of various colours, laces and ribbons.  Added to the materials, they also gave some accessories to go with the dresses.

We have to come up with the designs fast because more time is needed for sewing and getting all the dresses ready before the event starts.  My friend and I enjoyed our assignment. The quickest way to finish our assignment is to browse through the websites, get ideas from them and coming up with designs appropriate for this event. We went through a few websites like Long Prom Dresses and others, and we managed to get some really good ideas for simple and pretty dresses.

We sketched out the dresses that will be quite simple to sew.  Of course those who are sewing are free to choose from the many sketches we gave to them.  Everyone helps to get the dresses and suits ready and it is really fun to watch the children trying on the dresses and suits. At the same time, the children are taught how to go up the stage and walk like models.  Some of the children do it so naturally but there are some very nervous ones. Hopefully after a few practices they will be more confident. As the great event draws near, both adults and children are excited and eagerly looking forward to that day.

She makes linen garments and sells them,
and supplies the merchants with sashes.
She is clothed with strength and dignity;
she can laugh at the days to come.
(Proverbs 31:25, NIV)
