Previously, I have posted about my Ambra tree (Ambarella or Kedondong) and at that time it was growing very healthily and fruiting abundantly. We have harvested and enjoyed its fruits many times. To read about it, you can click here.
My Ambra tree has been infested with the pests twice before and each time after a thorough trimming, it recovered and grew back and fruited again.
But sadly, this 3rd time round, the pests just refused to go away. After I have balded it, it grew new branches and was doing very well. Just as it started to flower and the fruits were beginning to form, the pests came back again. Not willing to use any pesticides on my fruit trees, I have decided to cut down and uproot my Ambra tree!
Starting signs of the pests problem!
The pests ate up the leaves and leave behind these black sticky thing.
And also these! Could these be their eggs?
Introducing to you the culprits that destroyed my Ambra tree.
These are the yellow beetles with black spots.
At first I thought they were cute and pretty.
But now they are my enemies!
As I was cutting off the branches, I noticed that there were more than one pests problem!
This is still stuck in the pot. I will have to try to get it out of the pot.
I haven't decided what to plant in the pot after this.
My healthy Ambra tree before the enemies attacked!
And since, when we were His enemies,
we were brought back to God by the death of His Son,
what blessings He must have for us now that we are his friends
and He is living within us!
(Romans 5:10, TLB)
Nunca se está livre de apanhar uma praga que destrói as nossas plantas.
ReplyDeleteUm abraço e bom fim de semana.
It is true, we can never be free from pests. Have a happy weekend too!

In the cyberspace business world it is easy to get lost. Therefore the term Internet marketing has become the hottest of topics. There are a thousand different Internet marketing strategies, but what Internet marketing strategies are the ones that truly work?
Thank you, Kokila for visiting.
DeleteWhat a waste ....the fruits were plenty..I remembered you used to make juice with them :) these pests really know how to destroy a good ambra tree !
ReplyDeleteWhat a waste ....the fruits were plenty..I remembered you used to make juice with them :) these pests really know how to destroy a good ambra tree !
ReplyDeleteSo sad. Now have to buy the fruits whenever I want to make juice.
DeleteLong time ago, I also have a tree of ambra but sad to say it was attacked by the white small insect & eventually dies of. I used insect spray also no help. Once infested, no hope
ReplyDeleteIrene, it is not easy to get rid of them. They only disappear for a short while and reappear again.
DeleteOh noooo ... I feel for you, Nancy! I am excited to see what you're going to plant next and I hope it stays fairly pest free. :D
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sharon. Now I will have to think of a plant that will be pest free.
DeleteThat was such a beautiful tree. Sad to see. Getting rid of the pest is not always easy as there are always eggs to hatch and replace the beetles that got destroyed. I think that to win the battle would require daily removal of the larva who eat the leaves by blasting them off the leaves with water.
ReplyDeleteMy lilies were attacked by the red Japanese beetle that also look similar except they are red and no dots. The larva also produced a black poo that it covered itself with and when I removed the black poo I could see the larva eating the leaves. I had to blast the lilies with water often to remove the larvas and their protective black poo and squish the red adult beetles. They have wings and would fly away, only to return.
Hugs,
JB
Julia, its exactly like you mentioned about the black poo and the larva. I just hope after the Ambra tree is gone, these beetles will not return to my garden.
DeleteSo sad about it... :(
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sharon. No worries, now I am looking forward to plant something new in the big pot.
DeleteAh that is awful. I don't think those little pests could've been stopped. Looked like they were on a mission. Let us know what yo decide to replant!
ReplyDelete~lisa
Lisa, I think you are right! They are on a mission to finish off my Ambra tree. Lol! Will let you know when I have decided.
DeleteO, dear one, I'm sorry about this. I had a beautiful potted plant this summer that something attacked and I just threw it away.
ReplyDeleteThank you, BJ. We just have to discard and re-plant again. We can never be free from these pests!
DeleteAww that's sad to see.... :(
ReplyDeleteYes, Shahneela...it is so sad.
DeleteI'm so sorry you lost your precious tree. Sometimes pests just won't go away.
ReplyDeleteHave a terrific day Nancy. ☺
Thank you, Sandee. No worries, very soon a new plant will be growing in the same pot! Have a beautiful weekend, Sandee!
DeleteWhat a nuisance!
ReplyDeleteHi William. Yes, I hope that will be the last I see of the beetles!
DeleteSuch a shame.
ReplyDeleteHi Mamas, I will be looking for some other plant to grow in the pot.
DeleteAre there any organic solutions that may keep the beetles away? Grow another ambra tree in the same pot?
ReplyDeleteHi Mun, I even tried the strong chemical pesticide on them but it didn't work. I hope to try some other fruit tree!
DeleteMy friends have a garden and their plants have been attacked by Japanese Beetles. The beetles are very hard to get rid of!
ReplyDeleteHi Linda, looks like Beetles are tough enemies! I do hope these beetles will not go after my other plants.
DeleteOh my, I feel so sorry for your tree, there pests are the worst enemies!
ReplyDeleteHope that other plants are healthy!

Hi Tanya, I hope these beetles will leave my other plants alone. Have a great weekend!
DeleteNancy what terrible insects which damaged your plant. What a pity!
ReplyDeleteHi Gosia, so far this is the worst enemies that have attacked my plant. Hope it won't be attracted to my other plants in my garden.
DeleteThis is what our enemies do for sure, and your scripture verse is right on. Sorry about your tree. Very interesting lesson here. Happy weekend, Nancy.
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend to you too, dear. From my garden and plants, I have learnt that what the Bible says are very true.
DeleteI hate that the only way to get rid of them was to get rid of the tree....I wonder if there would have been a natural enemy of the pest....
ReplyDeleteHi Rose, I do hope to find a natural way to get rid of this enemies without foregoing any of my plants. So far, I have not found the solution yet.
DeleteNancy, what a shame that you had to get rid of your Ambra due to those pesky pests!
ReplyDeletePhong Hong, yes, it is a shame but by now I am thinking of what I am going to plant in that pot...I think I have an idea in my mind.
DeleteWhat a pity. I also had an ambra plant that died, after being attacked by mealy bugs. Quite a wonder how tiny bugs can kill a rather large tree.
ReplyDeleteOne tiny bug can't do much harm but when they come in great numbers, they are great destroyers!
