Growing Roses In My Garden

I love roses and I think most people love roses too. There is something about roses that has a special attraction. I enjoyed the rose garden in Cameron Highlands. Roses are not easy to grow in the lowland and most of the flowers can only last a day.

Since I can't resist from growing roses in my garden, I looked for the more hardy local roses to grow. At least the lowland roses can last longer. I managed to get some cuttings from a neighbour.
This is the local specie that is growing in my garden. I planted it in a pot and it has been faithfully blooming the whole year round. But it is susceptible to pest!
The flower has many petals and they are very compact.
It is a lovely, sweet red with rose fragrance. The flowers can last longer. The branches can grow tall and I have to keep cutting them to keep the plant short.
Scientific name for roses is Rosa.
I love this song by Bobby Vinton - "Roses are red, my love....."
You can listen to the song on Youtube.
There are many species of roses and they come in many sizes and colours.
They are very bright and attractive.
A rose bud....
I have another white rose plant that is a climber.
A friend gave this and it is also potted.
This climber rose can grow very tall and it needs a support.
At one time I tried to support it with some tall sticks and strings.
It bloomed beautifully and the flowers have nice fragrance.
The flowers are in clusters and they can last many days.
I have no proper support for the climbing plant and the branches began to droop down. After the flowers faded, I cut off the branches to keep it short.
I then shifted the plant next to the chain link fencing.
Roses are woody plants and they love the sun.
Some are shrubs and some are climbers.
Roses have thorns which are called prickles.
Roses are grown for their beauty and some roses for their sweet fragrance.
Some roses are big, and some are miniature.
New branches of the white rose plant.
Orange miniature rose.
This I bought from the nursery.
I tried to resist but finally bought it after a few trips to the nursery.
It was growing well and blooming well.
About a few years later it died.
Another deep pink rose plant given by a friend.
The flowers are slightly bigger than the miniature rose.
I realized too late that it was infested with pest. It couldn't be saved and I have to dug out the whole plant to destroy it together with the pest before it spread to my other plants.

Looking forward to the morning sun rising in the haze free days.

The path of the righteous is like the morning sun,
shining ever brighter till the full light of day.
But the way of the wicked is like deep darkness;
they do not know what makes them stumble.

  9. So sad about the pests. Is there any way to keep them away? Probably not. Pesticide is bad for everyone...plus the plants, right?

  12. I'm with you Nancy. I love roses. My wife & I have 12 rose plants growing throughout our backyard. We have different red roses, pink, blue, white, yellow & orange roses. The challenge is fighting the bugs that enjoy eating the leaves and the roses themselves. One new thing that my wife does and that is after our coffee she takes the coffee grinds and places them in the ground where our roses are. We've noticed that our roses are growing so much better. healthier and stronger. I don't why but they are.
Well, have a red rose day my friend. See ya.

  19. I love roses too! So beautiful. Were these photos taken very long ago for the orange roses plant? I am wondering if not, how else you would know that it died in a few years but yet have photos to show for it.

  26. Hi there would you mind sharing which blog platform you're working with?
I'm looking to start my own blog in the near future but I'm having a difficult time making a decision between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal.

The reason I ask is because your design and
style seems different then most blogs and I'm looking
for something completely unique. P.S Apologies for being off-topic but
    I had to ask!
