I received a Whatsapp message on my mobile phone from my foodie friend. She invited me to join her for some afternoon snacks and at the same time to accompany her to buy some biscuits from Gunung Rapat. She needed to buy some 'Heong Peah' biscuits for her Sibu friend.
I hopped into her car and off we went to Gunung Rapat. I have my favourite homemade 'Heong Peah' biscuits but since someone recommended this shop, we were interested to give it a try.

The moment we entered the shop, we could smell the fragrance of the freshly baked biscuits.
I bought a packet just for trial taste.
The freshly baked biscuits are very crispy and flaky.
Usually, as a gift, one would buy the package with the biscuits individually packed.

These freshly baked biscuits are different from the original biscuits which are brown in colour. These are Black Charcoal 'Heong Peah' biscuits. Both my friend and I like these black biscuits, more crispy than the original ones.

Interesting that the biscuits are so dark as compared to the first ones you showed us earlier yet tastier.... I was wondering what is on top. I'm sure the packaging assembly line is clean but I think they need to clean the wall especially at the bottom. I'm so finicky about cleanliness especially around where food is prepared. That would be enough to keep me from coming back I think.

DeleteI loves Heong Peah, usually if i got pass by a bakery shop which sells individual, i will buy and eat, i try to control buy packet, if not, i will be out of control eating it...

DeleteAre biscuits are so much lighter colored! I'm sure they're completely different in taste. And in England, biscuits are cookies. My stepdad is British and it took him a while to adjust to the American definition of "biscuits and gravy!"

No 177, Lorong 3 is still our favourite for the original. I haven't check whether they have started to sell these black charcoal ones or not. This new place, the black charcoal taste good.
