I have this evergreen plant with me but I didn't know its name. I have to seek the help of some gardening experts to get the proper name for this plant. I was told that this is the Calathea Roseopicta plant.
The leaves are oval in shape. They are dark green with cream markings.
Calathea Roseopicta are grown for their beautiful foliage.
The underside of the leaves are reddish purple.
I placed it below on the pedal of this sewing machine stand placed under my porch which is away from direct sunlight. On top is my Begonia plant.
After being shifted to this new place, it seems to grow better.
The leaves seem to grow greener and larger.
It grows well in moist soil with good water drainage.
I fertilize the plant one in 2 or 3 weeks.

Propagation of this plant is through division of the plants, separating the whole plants together with the roots.
Lack of soil moisture or too much sun may cause browning of the leaves tips.

ReplyDeleteThe beauty of nature ...the plant curl up from side to side (like folding) when sunset ... it somehow reminds me of 'touch me not'. Oh that antique sewing machine ... seeing the pedal of the sewing machine stand really brings back some fond childhood memories!

DeleteYour green plant might be related to the prayer plant but I don't know for sure. It has beautiful markings on the leaves and looks very healthy.

DeleteI find calathea very challenging to care for; the leaves will wilt if there's too much water, too exposed to sun. i could nvr get it right with calathea. wht's your tips, nancy?
ReplyDeleteSurprisingly, I find this plant doesn't need much care. I placed it in a semi shady place. I have no special tips in taking care of this plant and I water it like any normal plants.
