I have 2 hanging pots of Purple Shamrock under my porch and 3 small pots of Green Shamrocks. On one of my holidays in Fraser's Hill, I saw some weeds with green leaves that looked like the Purple Shamrock growing by the roadsides. I called these the Green Shamrock plants. That was few years ago. I dug up some to try growing in my lowland garden. It was not successful. In the middle of last year, we were again on holiday in Fraser's Hill and again I brought back some of these plants to grow but again it was not successful.
I thought of giving up trying to grow these Green Shamrock plants but last November when we were on holiday again in Fraser's Hill, I again brought back some Green Shamrock. This time I used the soil for growing succulent plants which has a better drainage. I placed the pots under semi shade near my bougainvillea plant.
Every morning I checked on the Green Shamrock plants and they seemed to be growing well. I googled and found a matching plant with matching flowers. The scientific name for the Green Shamrock is Oxalis Dehradunensis.
One by one the leaves appeared.
Then the flowers appeared. I was so happy to see the flowers.
The plants in this pot are doing very well.
The flowers are in this shade of purple.
The flowers are raised up high above the leaves.
The flowers may be tiny but they are very pretty.
What a joy to see this pot of Green Shamrock blooming beautifully.
Good thing I was persistent and didn't gave up after 2 unsuccessful attempts.
I am now looking for a place to hang my pots of Green Shamrock.
Every time I see these pretty blooms, I rejoice and praise the Almighty Creator.

Nancy, you are so caring with your plants! I tend to just grow plants that are willing to grow and care for themselves. We have green shamrock that grows and spread happily in our garden. They disappear around autumn to hide from the very cold winter. In spring, they all come back...but not the purple ones...they are more delicate and will not survive outside all year:(
ReplyDeleteI love these Shamrocks for their pretty butterfly leaves. I am now slowing cutting down on delicate plants and replacing with edibles.
DeleteHello! In my garden clover grows, but it is not thal variety. Nice fhotos. Greetings from Galicia.

DeleteI think the lesson here for me is to not give up. And what a reward you got for sticking with it, trying new soils. Absolutely beautiful, Nancy. A co-worker, a receptionist, had a shamrock on her desk and it greeted everyone well. She kept it healthy for years!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mary. We all need to keep on trying. I hope my plants will stay healthy for years too!
