Durian is my favourite seasonal fruit. And after durian, mangosteen will be next in line. Mangosteen is another seasonal fruit. Durian and mangosteen go hand in hand. Durian is considered a "heaty" fruit, while mangosteen is suppose to "cool" down the body heat. So after eating durians, it is recommended to eat some mangosteens.
This year, there is an abundance of durians and mangosteens. I bought a few rounds of mangosteen and each round of about 3 kilos or more.
As you can see, the skin is thick and takes up most of the weight. For the sake of photographs, I used a knife to cut the skin.
Otherwise, I will just use both palms to press open the mangosteen, as you can see those uneven broken skin on the right side (above picture).
The flesh is white and juicy. It is sweet with a slight sourish taste.
The number of fruit segments are revealed at the bottom of the fruit. The above picture shows 5 segments, and there are really 5 segments of white flesh inside.
The smaller segments will have little tiny soft seeds but the bigger ones will have bigger seeds which can be spit out.

and do wrong when he is tempted,

I love mangosteen but unfortunately, they are not widely available here. Lovely blooms from your garden. The aglaonema leaves are gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, dear! Mangosteen is plentiful this year but they are also expensive.
DeleteNancy, in the photo of the light purple wishbone flower, I noticed some weeds growing (the one with small heart shaped leaves) - called peperomia pellucida - Do you know that this is a good herb plant that grows wildly like weeds in the tropics? I wish we could grow it here too, but we can't:( So, I'm coveting you once again on this! Happy gardening :)
ReplyDeleteYes, Annie. I knew about this herb plant that is growing abundantly in my garden. I usually discard them. I have consumed them once or twice only.
DeleteI Love Mangosteen like anything,I tasted this fruit first from Singapore.Loved your garden blooms too :)
ReplyDeleteYes, can never have enough of it.
DeleteI love mangosteens too! Once I start eating one fruit I cannot stop hah..hah..
ReplyDeleteSame with me!
DeleteThe fruit and flowers are all very interesting and unusual to see. I especially like the flame violets - very pretty, both flowers and leaves and it's nice to know they grow wild in your garden. Wishing you a good week Nancy.
ReplyDeleteThank you, dear!
Deleteflowers love growing in your garden. I love to eat mangosteens too but must be careful not to get the stains on clothes.
ReplyDeleteYes, have to be very careful with the stains.
DeleteI adore mangosteens! My fave tropical fruit.
ReplyDeleteMine too!

ReplyDeleteThe mangosteen is one of our local fruits.

ReplyDeleteI heard this fruit is not easy to harvest.
DeleteI would love to try them both. I've not had either.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous day, Nancy. ♥
I am sure you will love the mangosteen.
DeleteThe Flame Violets and Crown Of Thorns are fantastic! Does the Crown Of Thorns really have thorns? I have never seen the inside of a Mangosteen, so interesting! It must be very hard to open it by pressing your palms and squeezing it. Wish I could try some.
ReplyDeleteThe crown of thorns really have thorns. There is no need to really press hard with the palms, just enough for the skin to break open.
DeleteHola Nancy, me llama mucho la atención está fruta, la vi en otras ocasiones, pero nunca al natural, me encantaría probarla. Tu jardín precioso. Besos.
ReplyDeleteI hope you will get to try the fruits one day!
DeleteFruits I have never seen or heard of!!! I would love to try them one day.
ReplyDeleteHave a good day Diane
Thank you, Diane!
DeleteThe flowers are very pretty.
ReplyDeleteI would be surprised if those fruits get imported up here.
Maybe the produce is not enough for export.
DeleteInteresting post dear! thanks for sharing xx

Thank you, Connie! Have a lovely day!
DeleteThank you!
ReplyDeleteAha so that's the trick, cutting with a knife. I was marvelling at the pure-white mangosteen against the dark skin.
ReplyDeleteUse knife for presentation. I usually use my palm to open them.
DeleteThe flowers are so pretty but the fruits are so foreign to me! What a marvelous world we live in!
ReplyDeleteIts a local fruit. Yes, its a marvelous world.
DeleteFirst time seeing and hearing the fruit Mangosteen, which I actually though it as Palmyra fruit at glance! The fruit looks like a while flower... lovely shots
ReplyDeleteThis is one of my favourite fruits, very sweet.
