Monday's Mish Mash

Yesterday, we woke up to another rainy morning. Hearing the pitter patter of the rain on the awning rood, I went back to sleep and woke up about 7:30 am to prepare breakfast. Initially, I thought of just having bread but later remembered that there were leftover steamed pork ribs and pumpkin from the previous day's dinner.

Breakfast
Noodle with leftover steamed pork rib + Nescafe for hubby
Oat porridge with leftover pumpkin, walnuts and cranberry for me.
Tiny white flowers from a Daikon plant in my garden.
I harvested a pale green bitter gourd from my garden. It is about 6 inches long. Could this be a cross between the green and white bitter gourd plants which I planted side by side? I can see a tinge of yellow, a sign of ripening.
Mid morning sky, on my way out to the grocery store.
When I returned home, my neighbour gave me this papaya.

Dinner on a rainy day.
I checked the fridge to see what I have to clear. I took out an old cucumber to boil soup.
Old cucumber soup with pork ribs and carrot.
I pan fried half a packet of sweet meat.
Simple dinner with steamed rice, comforting on a cold and wet evening.
My bigger than palm size yellow hibiscus.
I took this snapshots under the midday sun.

He died under God's judgment against our sins so that
he could rescue us from constant falling into sin
and make us his very own people,
with cleansed hearts and real enthusiasm
for doing kind things for others.
(Titus 2:14, The Living Bible-TLB)

  1. Love your breakfast of oats with both savoury pumpkin and sweet cranberry, sweet and savoury oats, just the kind of breakfast that I like. The noodles look interesting. What type of noodles are those? Not instant pan Mee, right?

    1. Thank you, Mun. The noodles is just plain wheat noodles, non fried type. On the packet, its called MISOYA.

    2. Misoya sounds like noodles made from soya beans.

    3. That was what I thought, but soya beans not listed as one of the ingredients.

  2. The daikon plant flowers and leaves look like bean sprouts. I wonder can they be eaten? I wonder how to determine whether or not that bitter gourd is a cross between white and green bitter gourd. Just by looking, can't tell, right?

    1. I am only guessing because the green is exceptionally pale compared to the normal green bitter gourds.

  3. So nice of your neighbor to give you the papaya. Steamed rice goes well with those sweet meat so your dinner is yummy! The old cucumber soup is delicious too but you peel off all the old cucumber skin, right? Cos I don't see the skin. Usually we cook the old cucumber with its skin intact and eat the skin too. The yellow hibiscus flower is so pretty.

    1. I used to scrape off the outer brown skin from the old cucumber with a knife before boiling soup but now, I prefer to use a scraper which is so much easier, removing all the skin.

  23. The old cucumber soup looks like white radish soup cos you cut off the skin hee hee. The sweet meat must be tasty, you and your hubby eat so very well, everyday got different dishes, yums!

    1. Yes, without the skin it can be mistaken for white radish soup. If I am not in a lazy mood, I will try to have varieties.

    1. A tinge of sweet, savoury from the pumpkin and cranberry. I didn't add any salt or sugar to the oat porridge.
