Sunbathing Turtle Dove

Hubby was watching TV and I was sitting in front of my computer when suddenly hubby call out to me to look out the window.

#1
I looked out the window and saw this dove which Google Lens identified as European Turtle Dove sunbathing on my neighbour's awning.
#2
Then it moved away from the corner to the middle of the awning and spread out its left wing.
#3
I was aiming my hand phone camera at it and good thing it couldn't see me.
#4
It was very entertaining to watch this dove drying itself.
Now it is spreading its left wing upwards.
#5
I leave you to enjoy the snapshots.

From the other end of the awning, it move to this end of the awning.

At last, it had enough of sunbathing. It got up and flew away.
And here ends the slideshow of the sunbathing dove.

Oh, for wings like a dove, to fly away and rest!

  2. Here doves are considered nasty, flying rats, but those are city doves, highly aggressive. Yours looks friendly and fun to watch!

    1. I am glad that the doves here are not the aggressive types. Some of them are not very shy. Most will fly away if we get to close to them.

  3. We have a lot of these pigeons in my garden...and cuckoos too. We just let them be but there are some stray cats in my neighbourhood. They're terrible! Predators, all of them. Sometimes they will attack these poor harmless peaceful birds and kill them and drag their bodies all over our driveway leaving trails of blood all over. I wish I could do something to get rid of those cats!

    1. For stray cats, we usually will trap them and relocate them far from our area. That is the only thing we can do.

  5. Thank you Nancy for the Sunbathing Turtle Dove photos. Looks like dancing movements in slow motion. How long did you stand there quietly taking photos of the dove?
