Buffet Lunch At Palong Coffeehouse, Riverfront Hotel, Ipoh

On Thursday morning, I received a call from my ex-colleague inviting me to join a buffet lunch at Palong Coffeehouse in Kinta Riverfront Hotel. It was so thoughtful of them to invite me as it has been more than a year since my retirement. I appreciate their remembering me and I was happy to meet up with my ex-colleagues again.

It also gave me a chance to congratulate my ex-boss on his recent promotion to a higher position. The buffet lunch was organized as a celebration for his promotion and also a farewell as he has been transferred to a new place.

It was nice to meet up with my ex-colleagues. I take this opportunity to thank Pn. Aida and all my ex-colleagues for a wonderful lunch. After we have settled down, there was some short speeches and presentation of a gift to the boss. And then, it was time to start our beffet lunch.
For a starter, I had some salad. As always, I like to try a little bit of this and that. It is safer to take a little bit to taste and if I like it, I can always go back for more. And if I didn't like it, there is nothing to throw as I do not like to waste food.
This is the main dish. I took 2-3 spoonful of oiled rice (nasi minyak), some mutton + potato curry, some veggie, a piece of steamed chicken, tofu and seafood balls. A little bit of each added up to quite a lot.
Just couldn't resist these sweet desserts and fruits.

My version of ice-kacang. I took a spoonful of 4 ingredients with a little ice shaving just to taste. Cooked kidney beans, canned corn, grass jelly and crushed peanuts. I didn't quite like the ice shaving because it was a bit coarse and not fine.
Something savoury with half a cup of hot coffee after all the sweet desserts. Looking at all I have eaten, seemed like quite a lot! Now I will have to do extra rounds of morning walk!
Buffet lunch - cost MYR 42 per person (11.17 USD).

Salad corner

More salads, pickles, sauces, etc.

My favourite salad or rojak with spicy peanut sauce.

Queuing up for the main course.

Fresh fruits and ice-kacang.

Sweet desserts e.g. cakes, pudding, custards, etc.

Time of waiting for all to arrive.

Some of my ex-colleagues. They are always fun to have around, always cheerful and always happy. Without them around, the office's atmosphere will be so different.

Some of my female ex-colleagues, members of my second home when I was working.

My forever young ex-colleague and also my coffee break ex-partner. Both of us love coffee and we faithfully kept our coffee time especially in the afternoon.

Starting from the right: My recently promoted ex-boss En. Meor, receiving a gift from engineer Mr. Lim and my ex-colleague Pn. Aida who sat next to me before I retire.

Kinta Riverfront Hotel.

Just before entering my car, I took this photo of people fishing at the Kinta river in front of the hotel in the hot mid-day sun.

On my way home after lunch. Nothing in our life remains the same, not even the skyline over Ipoh City.

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

  9. So thoughtful of your ex colleagues to invite you. Good that you do not like to waste food and take a little of each item to try. A plus point of eating buffet is that you get to taste a variety of food. A minus point is more often than not, people tend to overeat at buffet which is not good for their health. Nice to see you enjoyed the food. Your bowl of ABC is calling to me at this hour. Oh dear, guess I have to go to bed soon.

    1. Buffet meals tend to test our will power especially with all the wide display of yummy items. That's why I seldom go for buffet.

  19. That's exactly what I do at buffets too, take small bits of this and that. Then somehow pile up on calories from the dessert section haha.
