IPOH RAILWAY STATION - NOW AND BEFORE.

Some time back in the month of May, my friend Sam and I were at the UTC (Urban Transformation Centre) to pay our bills. Once a month, both of us will make a trip to town to have breakfast together and then to settle our monthly bills. It is also a good opportunity to stay in touch with each other and keep our friendship strong.

After having paid our bills, we happened to chance upon an exhibition being held there. Since we were not in a rush, we took our time to view all the exhibits and we were free to take photos. Through this exhibition we had the opportunity to see many photos showing us how the current places looked like many years ago.
It was the "My Ipoh - Heritage Trail" exhibition.
A Heritage Exhibition organized by Ipoh City Council.
This was how our Ipoh Railway Station looked like at the very beginning in a black and white photo.
The old station yard of the Ipoh Railway Station.

Excerpt from the banner: -
Ipoh's Railway Station was built from 1914 to 1917 in the Neo-Classical style and designed by government architect A.B.Hubback. Often referred to as the "Taj Mahal" of Ipoh, the building is similar to the Kuala Lumpur Railway Station (also designed by A.B.Hubback).
 This picture on the banner showed the War Memorial located in Station Square in front of the Railway Station. The memorial commemorates Perak's war dead and bears the words "Sacred to the memory of the men from the state of Perak who fell in the Great War 1914-1918 and to those who died in the 1939-1945 war."
 At this present time, this is how the Ipoh Railway Station looks like .
It is owned by Keretapi Tanah Melayu. It serves as the railway terminal for Perak state. It offers KTM intercity services, ETS services and handling freight trains.
This building was used for the shooting of a Hollywood film "Anna & The King".

Do not exalt yourself in the king's presence,
and do not claim a place among his great men;
it is better for him to say to you, "Come up here,"
than for him to humiliate you before his nobles.
(Proverbs 25:6-7, NIV)

  11. This is interesting how the station grew over the years. I live in a little hick town 100 years old and I enjoy the photos on the wall of the post office as I wait in line comparing the modern building of today to yesteryear with horse and buggy!

  15. looks like it is still well maintained till now. It is good to see how it developed for the old days till today. I think maybe that venue might be one of the popular place where couple would snap wedding photos.
