Teochew Porridge At Restoran Hup Kie, Ipoh

Just before I started preparing this post, I did a check on the calendar. Today is the 230th day since the MCO or movement control order was initiated by our government.

We were interested to try this new place when we first saw it posted on a social media. The chance to do so finally came and we met at Restoran Hup Kie last Tuesday for lunch. Since we wanted to eat Teochew porridge, we asked for recommendation from the one who attended to us. With his help, we ordered the following dishes for 3 people.

Appetizer - soft braised peanuts.
Appetizing crispy dried prawns with pickled sweet sour onions.
We started with 3 bowls of plain watery rice porridge.
Crunchy deep fried salted pork belly.
Deep fried "salted cooked fish", taste great with calamansi juice.
We added 1 bowl of rice and 1 bowl of porridge to share.
Braised pork belly, hard boil eggs, tofu, pork ears & innards.
Even though we over ordered for 3 people, we managed to finished all the food. The total bill came to about RM60+. Hope to return to try other dishes.

So be careful not to jump to conclusions before the Lord returns
as to whether someone is a good servant or not.
When the Lord comes, he will turn on the light so that everyone can
see exactly what each one of us is really like, deep down in our hearts.
Then everyone will know why we have been doing the Lord's work.
At that time God will give to each one whatever praise is coming to him.
(1 Corinthians 4:5, The Living Bible-TLB)

  2. Perfect dishes to accompany hot porridge. The pickled onion one sounds interesting - don't see much onion though.

  7. I only eat porridge once in a while as I am a big eater, so eating porridge does not keep me full, hee hee.

Happy a good week ahead, Nancy!

    1. Actually the porridge was watery and not very filling, so we are able to finish it all.
