Stopping By The Roadside For Fresh Durian Snack.

After our lunch at Restoran Chai Chin on 8 June, we were on the road again and stopped by at Teluk Senangin.
Welcome to Teluk Senangin or Senangin Bay.
A spot near a construction site just outside Teluk Senangin where we stopped to take a look. Ha ha I think we intruded into private land. Good thing we were not chased away.
We stopped to chat with a man fishing on this beautiful beach. The sea water here is clean and clear.
Our next target - durians, on the way to Taiping!
Our friends gave the signal to stop - roadside stalls selling durians.
We stopped at one stall. Durians selling by the kilos.
MYR 10.00 (approx 2.45 USD) per kilo.
A close up view of Stinky Beans (Petai) in the pods.
We are durian lovers.
Some are sweet, some are bitter sweet. I love the latter with the creamy texture.
Some just cannot stand the strong odor. After eating the few seeds of durians, my craving for durians was awakened!
2 weeks later, (this afternoon) I went looking for durians. Saw a few stalls selling durians. I bought 2 durians for MYR 20.00. It was selling at MYR 10.00 per kg. I opened the 1st one and it has a light beige colour flesh. Bitter sweet and thick creamy texture - good!
Then I opened the 2nd one and wow! So delicious and it is more bitter sweet than the 1st one.
I finished the 1st durian and ate half of the 2nd durian. I kept telling hubby how good the durians were but he refused to be tempted. Lol!
I kept the remnants in the fridge. I love cold durians too!
King of fruits but not everyone loves these thorny fruits.

The thorny ground represents the hearts of people
who listen to the Good News and receive it,
but all too quickly the attractions of this world
and the delights of wealth, and the search for success
and the lure of nice things come in and crowd out
God's message from their hearts, so that no crop is produced.

  3. Nancy, Durian is an interesting fruit! If one can resist judging it first by the odor, I think many would like and enjoy the taste. I like them but haven't had them for so many many years...so, your writing about it just brings back nice recollection memory of it:) I'm not sure my husband or my two daughters would like it?? because they are ignorant of this fruit LOL!

    1. Hi Annie, some just can't stand the odor while people like me just love to sniff, sniff and enjoy it. There are some who totally dislike the fruit. I hope one day you will get a chance to enjoy durians again and hope too your husband and girls will know how to enjoy the fruit too.

  29. What an interesting post. I've never seen or tasted a Durian (well I've seen them on the Food Network Channel) and I'm not at all sure it would be something I would enjoy eating but I found them fascinating to read about. - Your fence shots were nice. I liked the fancy work on the first one.

  33. I'm getting very tempted by all these durian pics! Did you just buy durian kampung for the RM20? It seems impossible to get good 'unbranded' durians here.

    1. I bought those kampung durians for RM20 and they're really good. Those branded ones are too expensive.

    2. I've tried my luck at unbranded durians a few times. Mainly they're not worth eating. :(
