Lunch With Ex-Colleagues At Morganfields, Ipoh.

The only time we can conveniently meet up with our ex-colleagues and friends is on Fridays. On Fridays, they can relax and enjoy longer lunch without having to rush back to their office. The venue was fixed. The retirees reached earlier and the table was set for 7 people.

Lunch At Trishaw Dessert Stall, Ipoh.

Some friends have mentioned about this dessert stall but it was only recently that hubby and I paid a visit to this place. We enjoyed a light lunch and like the desserts served there. A week later, we brought along our friends and we ordered the following for our lunch. This is a good place to come for some sweet desserts (tong sui in Cantonese) and local cakes (kuih).
No.1, 4 = Sweet dessert - Bubur Cha Cha
(sweet soup - sweet potato, taro, black eye beans, coconut milk)
No. 2 = sweet soup - black glutinous rice, coconut milk.
No. 3 = sweet soup - mung beans, coconut milk.
 Flavoured glutinous rice with chicken drumstick curry rendang.

 Fried prawn fritter.

Lunch At Restoran Nam Hing Loong, Temoh.

From Gopeng, we drove straight to Temoh because my friends were looking forward to have lunch at Restoran Nam Hing Loong. We reached our destination but found the shop close. Maybe we were early, so drove around to check out the little town. After a while, we turned back and saw workers opening up the restaurant. The time was between 12 to 12.30 pm. We were the first customers to step inside the restaurant and very soon followed by others.
 Our friends wanted to taste the pork knuckle that we ordered on our previous visit. We enjoyed the pork knuckle with the basil and milk dipping sauce. 
 Sambal belacan paku pakis (wild fern).
We order "sang yu" (snakehead fish). The meaty part used for stir fried with ginger slices and spring onions. 
\The remaining bony parts used for boiling preserved salted vegetables (hum choy) with tofu. Total cost of lunch for 4 people - RM 92.60

After lunch, we crossed over to the coffee shop selling steamed buns to pack some home for next day's breakfast. 
 On our way to Temoh we saw durian stalls on both sides of the road after Gopeng. We planned to stop for durian on our way back to Ipoh. It was raining on the way back but we still stopped for some durians to satisfy our taste buds.

A Short Visit To Gopeng Town

Whenever our friend is in Ipoh, we planned a short foodie trip somewhere not too far from Ipoh. This time we planned to have lunch in Temoh since they have not been there before. On the way to Temoh, we made a short stop in Gopeng because they wanted to known the locations of the 2 museums in Gopeng. 

They will be back to visit the museum on their next trip but we did stop to pay a short visit to the smaller museum. This small museum is now housed inside the old wooden building which was once the stable of late Eu Kong (founder of Eu Yang Sang). The old stable was given a face lift before the museum shifted in.

The Chili Plants Growing In My Garden

I have noticed that the chilies that I intentionally planted won't grow well but those that grow from seeds that I throw as compost or from seeds left from birds droppings grow well and fruit abundantly. Even the chili plants I bought from Cameron Highland will grow for a short period and will somehow die off.
These chilies were from the chili plant I bought from Cameron Highland. They look red and spicy but surprisingly, they tasted like capsicums.
The plant was doing very well and grew to triple its size.
The harvest was good.
But once the rainy season started, the chili rotted (as above pic) before they could ripen. The leaves started to turn yellow and dropped off, and the plant died. Lesson learnt: I think I should move my chili plants out of the rain when the next rainy season starts.
This was another chili plant which I didn't plant. Before I could plant something in this pot, the chili plant grew out of it. I left the common caladium and the chili plant be. I even get to harvest some chilies from it.

To my surprise, the chili plant started to flourish.
Leaves, flowers and chilies kept appearing.
With a bit of fertilizer, the plant was doing very well.
Every morning, I get to harvest a handful of chilies.
One morning I found the whole chili plant withered and limp.
It didn't revive and I had to pull it out and discarded it.
This chili plant grew from seeds I discarded together with other vegetable discard as compost.

Whenever there is surplus supply of chilies from my garden, I dried them in the sun. I stock the dried chilies my fridge to use when there is no more fresh supply from the garden especially during the wet season.
Chili plants don't do well during the wet season. That is why prices of fresh chilies usually shoot up during the wet season. Then the dried chilies in my fridge will come in useful.
