Dinner In Menglembu On A Cold, Wet Evening

We had a dinner appointment with friends one evening and when they came to pick us up from our house, it had started to drizzle. By the time we reached the place where we were to have dinner, it was raining heavily. It was good that there were umbrellas in my friends' car.
Overcast sky the whole day - about 3 pm.
It is natural to feel hungry on a cold, wet evening. There were not many customers so food was served in a short while. We had the following dishes for 6 people.
Free soup with meat balls - free flow.
Fried tofu with minced meat and dried prawns.
Steamed pork belly with taro (wu tau kau yoke)
The taro or yam melted! Could it be due to over steaming?
These were not all we had, more to come.
Stir fried sambal paku pakis - fern spikes or wild ferns.
Sweet sour steamed fish.
With this dish it is very tempting to take extra rice.

So use every piece of God's armor to resist the enemy whenever he attacks,
and when it is all over, you will still be standing up.

Home Made Pickled Mangoes.

One particular morning at the recreational park, I took this picture of the sky on the west. This reflection of the sunrise could easily be mistaken for a sunrise.
After breakfast, a friend came over to my house to pass me some green unripe mangoes.
The first thing that came to my mind was pickled mangoes!
A very simple home made pickled mango recipe.
First, I peeled off the skin from the washed mangoes.
I halved the young mangoes, discard the seeds and sliced the mangoes.
I add white sugar to the mango slices. I cut a packet of salted "assam boi" into pieces and added to the mango slices.
Then I packed them into smaller plastic tubs. The texture of the mangoes very crunchy and is not sour. These pickled mangoes make appetizing snacks and they are very addictive too. Talking about the pickled mangoes or looking at this picture makes me salivate.

After lunch, desserts were on our mind.
How about this place "Rojak N cendol, Padang Ipoh?
This place is facing the Ipoh Padang.
Iced cendol with canned sweet corn.
Iced cendol with kidney beans.
I was told that during the durian season, this place served Iced Cendol with durian.
Must keep this in mind for the next durian season.

Lord, if you keep in mind our sins,
then who can ever get an answer to his prayers?
But you forgive! What an awesome thing this is!

Making Chai Kuih Or Steamed Vegetable Dumplings.

Chai Kuih or steamed vegetable dumpling is one of my favourite kuih or snack. I used to buy these dumplings from one lady who sells kuih at the recreational park where we go for our morning walk. She only sells chai kuih or vegetable dumplings on Fridays, other days she will be selling curry puffs, etc. So far, her vegetable dumplings is one of the best I have tasted and the dumplings are packed with yam bean or chives filling.
I started making chai kuih and the first few tries were up to my expectation. Finally, I managed to get the right texture for the skin and it was worth all the effort and patience.
Once steamed, brush some garlic oil on the dumplings.
A friend of mine loves these dumplings too. So one morning I made some for her, since I will be visiting her that morning.
These were my friend's lunch. The dumplings were still warm when I reached her place. Dropped a few dollops of chilies sauce on the dumplings.
Steamed tapioca with melted palm sugar is also my friend's and my favourite snack. Bought some from the roadside stall, steamed the tapioca and took both the steamed dumplings and tapioca to my friend. So satisfying to see her enjoying these snacks. All my effort not wasted. Lol!

Curry Fish Head For Dinner On A Cool Evening

I can't remember at which restaurant we had this dinner. It has to be one of the restaurants in Menglembu. For the past few weeks, the weather was cool due to the rainy season. It was a good excuse to order fish head curry for dinner.
Fish Head curry with tofu puff, long beans and brinjals in a clay pot.
Stewed pork ribs with taro or yam in a clay pot.
Sweet potato leaves - stir fried with prawn paste.
Total dinner costs RM 51.20 for 4 people.
