Nasi Kunyit With Chicken Curry & Clay Pot Chicken Rice

We are still in the rainy season. Even though it rained on and off, this particular morning was dry and clear for morning walk.

We set out for morning walk at about 6:50am.

After morning walk, we drove to Menglembu for breakfast. After having tried some hor hee noodles at a few places, we still prefer the hor hee noodles in Restoran Meng Meng Kee.

Hubby ordered a bowl of hor hee with mung bean noodle (toong fun).

I wanted to order prawn noodle but the stall was closed.

I noticed a stall at a corner selling yellow or turmeric rice (nasi kunyit) with chicken curry and decided to give it a try. The rice was well cooked and chicken curry delicious. No regret, no complain, thumbs up! The next visit, I will try the savoury glutinous rice.

We ordered a glass of Chinese tea, 1 cup of kopi-C kosong and pieces of toast with butter and kaya. Forgot to take pic of the toast because it was served much later.

A new batch of long bean plants growing in my garden. They are now about 2 feet tall and have already started to flower.

Dine-out dinner because I didn't feel like cooking.

1 small clay pot chicken rice.

Hubby had started to mix the rice but I stopped him so that I could take a pic.

I have shown a pic of this baby pineapple in an earlier post. While watering the plant, I noticed 3 purple flowers at the base? There will be more purple flowers in days to come.

Sweet Sour Pork Rib Noodle & Drunken Prawn Noodle Soup

We started our morning walk a bit later than usual.

It turned out to be another cloudy day.

We had breakfast at one of our regular coffee shop.

I ordered sweet sour pork rib noodle (pan mee). It came with a bowl of clear soup with some green vegetable.  It tasted delicious to me. Hubby tried but he doesn't like the texture of pan mee.

Generous portion of pork rib. I don't mind ordering this again.

What did I cook for dinner? Since I had frozen prawns in the fridge and lots of home made raisin wine, I cooked drunken prawns soup.

Ingredients used: 8 big prawns, lots of ginger strips, goji berries, red dates, home made raisin wine, prawns and eggs.

I soaked and cooked mung bean or transparent noodles (toong fun).

We each had a bowl of drunken prawn noodle with 4 big prawns and we finished drinking all the soup. After my dinner I was almost drunk with the wine. I could feel the warm spreading through my whole body.  A great dinner to have on a cool rainy evening.

The night is far gone,

Shredded Chicken, Pig's Stomach Noodles & Braised Large Intestine

We woke up early and were ready for our morning walk early.

We drove to Kedai Kopi Xin Tai You at Jalan Sri Adika for breakfast.

We haven't been there for a long, long time. We were one of the early customers that morning.

Shredded chicken (no prawn) noodle flat rice noodle (kai si hor fun) for me.

Ordered a small plate of braised large intestine.

This was for hubby.

Pig stomach, radish & pepper soup noodle for hubby.

Beautiful pure white lilies.

Hubby went out to meet his friends and came back with the above deep fried nian gao. It is sticky glutinous cake sandwiched with sweet potato and taro, dipped in batter and deep fried. It is nice to eat while it is still hot. When you take a bite, the sticky glutinous cake will ooze out. Next time, I hope to remember to take a picture to show the cross section.

I was trying to take a nap in the afternoon when I was disturbed by some loud noise outside my house. I looked out and saw that there was some kind of work being carried out to clear water drainage blockages in our area.

Drunken Chicken Soup Noodle & Roast Duck Noodle

This was Christmas Day morning. We didn't go for morning walk because we were preparing for Christmas Day physical church service.

Since we have plenty of time, we drove out to town for breakfast at Restoran Impressive. We have not been there for many years so it was like a new place for us.

Hubby ordered Drunken Chicken Noodle Soup.

The pieces of chicken were beneath the fried egg.

I ordered wonton noodle with roast duck.

The roast duck noodle came with 4 wontons (minced meat dumplings) and soup.

Shopping For The Lunar New Year

We have just celebrated Christmas and now in a few days’ time, we will be ushering in the New Year 2022. Whatever the New Year may bring, life still has to go on. For the year 2022, we will be celebrating Lunar New Year on the 1^st of February. Hopefully, situation will continue to improve and families will be able to celebrate together. Anyway, let us focus on the positive to strengthen us and motivate us to move forward. Let us not be dampen by the pandemic still in our midst.

We still have a month to prepare for the Lunar New Year. I need to do some house cleaning and stocking up of some foodstuffs for the celebration even though it will be a simple one. Of course, I need to do some shopping since we haven’t bought any clothes for ourselves since the pandemic started.

Now with the new virus variant in our midst, it is safer to shop online. For women’s clothing, Ninacloak is a great place to shop for women’s clothing. This time, I am interested in checking out the women’s long sleeve blouses. I have put on some weight during the lockdowns and some of my clothes are a bit tight for me. I need some long sleeve blouses that are suitable for both day and night wear in our kind of weather. I am looking for materials that are light and airy which I can wear for both formal and informal outings.

I am also eyeing some of the women’s long sleeved t-shirts available on this website. The reason I look for long sleeved t-shirts is because the long sleeves will protect me from the hot sun in the day and keep me warm in the cool nights. The designs and colours of the t-shirts are to my preference and style. Simply said, they are more suitable for my age. 

Besides clothing, I am also interested in the casual pants and shorts which are great matches for the blouses and t-shirts. 

This is the best time to make purchases as some of the selected items including shoes and accessories are enjoying discounts up to 70%.

Christmas Blessing From Neighbour And Friend

I will start this post going back to Tuesday. It was a bright and sunny day.

Kledang Hill bathed with sunlight at 7:38am.

We returned from our morning walk and breakfast to find that the roof work had started on one of our neighbour's house.

They chose a good day to change the roof tiles.

The work was completed in less than a day. All the old tiles were carted away and everything was cleared away.

I harvested some purple and green brinjals from the garden for dinner.

I cut them into thick slices, soaked in salt water. Then I drained off the salt water, sprinkled pepper onto both sides of the brinjal slices and pan fried them until cooked. I served this with some chili oil and roasted sesame dressing.

Fried a thick slice of grouper fish with fried ginger strips and soy sauce. These we ate with plain rice porridge.

This year I didn't make or buy any thing for Christmas.

On Christmas Eve, I received 2 items from our neighbour.

A fruit cake.

And a fruit jelly.

On Christmas Day, I received a message telling me to collect something from a friend (ex-colleague's house after church.

Traditional roast pork with potatoes (without oven), using her grandma's recipe. I was told to heat up and sliced the pork thinly before serving which I did as above.

And I cooked non-fried Cintan dried noodle.

Before serving, I poured the gravy over the pork and noodle.

This was our Christmas Day dinner.

There was enough leftover for the next day's dinner.
