Edibles Growing In My Garden

These days, I have not been out for foodie hunt so today, I will share about the edibles growing in my garden.

Bitter Lettuce.
I got the seeds from a friend.
From the first sowing of seeds, only 2 seedlings sprouted successfully.
I thought the success rate was low, so I sowed all the remaining seeds and these sprouted. These are now grown in the veggie patch in front of my house next to my neighbour's.
Corn plants in the front veggie patch.
I have 4 yam beans growing in black plastic bags in the front garden. Hope there is something for me to harvest in the near future.
Skinny cauliflower plants.
Green brinjals.
Chili plants are still fruiting.
Snake long beans seedlings newly transferred to these big pots.

We found the following mural during our short trip to Penang in 2022.
Children flying kites.
This mural was painted on the side wall of a corner shop.

Lunch at Restoran Nam Hing Loong, Temoh, Perak

Yesterday, 5th day CNY 2023, hubby had a gathering with his course mates. A few of them met up in one of their house and spent some time catching up with one another. They came from Singapore, Johor, Kuala Lumpur and Perak and this is their once a year gathering. I was home with my son. They ordered the following dishes for their lunch.

Venison with young ginger slices and spring onions.
Pork tender.
Brinjal or eggplant.
Sang cheong (innard or pig's intestine).
Blanched green veggie.
According to hubby, everyone was giving thumbs up for the dishes.
In spite of the crowd, they only waited for half an hour to be served.

Spotted a rainbow during our morning walk at 7am.
Took another shot of the rainbow before we continued on our morning walk.

Lunch At Restoran Eipoh, Ipoh

Usually at this time, most of us will be busy spring cleaning our houses or making Chinese New Year biscuits or cookies.  As for me and my friends, we put aside some time to meet up for lunch before the Chinese New Year celebration. We had no planned venue for lunch so we were waiting for someone to suggest a venue. Someone suggested Restoran Eipoh which is not out of the way for us, plus we also wanted to buy some biscuits which is somewhere nearby.

Kong cheen sang meen or pre fried wanton noodle.
Everyone enjoyed this noodle.
Sing chow beehoon or Singapore fried rice vermicelli.
This was a disappointment because it was dry and lacking in ingredients except for some beansprouts and pieces of fried egg.
Deep fried salted egg yolk prawns. This was good.
Baby choy sum sauteed with garlic.
Total cost of lunch = RM85 for 4 people.
That comes to about RM20.25 per person.
After lunch, we stopped at Sin Eng Hoe Confectionary because a friend wanted to buy peanut candies. All were sold out and we were told to return at about 5pm for the new stock. We ended up buying some other items.
Instead of peanut candies, I bought the above fried rice crunchies at RM5 each packet.
1 packet of sachima or sak kei ma which is a kind of sweet snack. This packet has almond slices and sesame seeds added to it - RM9.90
This is the original plain sachima - RM7.90
A friend wanted to buy neen koh or sweet glutinous rice cake in the Pasir Pinji market. I accompanied her into the market and I too ended up buying a small size neen koh. This stall is selling the neen koh at RM28 per kilo. This small one that I bought costs me RM11.20.

If you love someone, you will be loyal to him no matter what the cost.
You will always believe in him, always expect the best of him,
and always stand your ground in defending him.

Driving Up The Hill To Gopeng AgroTech Farm

Monday, 28th November was declared a public holiday by our new Prime Minister as he had promised. We thought it will be good to visit Gopeng AgroTech Farm and check out the place since we haven't been there. We started our journey at about 10:30am from Ipoh. We took a few wrong turns when going up the hill because there was no signboard to lead the way. We had to stop to ask a few passersby and finally found the place at about 11:40am.

Here we were outside Gopeng AgroTech Farm.
Entrance fee is RM3 for both adults and children. Entrance fee will be exempted for those staying in or having lunch here. Lunch needs to be pre-order a day ahead.
Young asparagus plants.
Young dragon fruit plants.
Dragon fruit flower.
These yellow dragon fruits have thin thorns on the skin of the fruits unlike the normal red skin dragon fruits.
I have not tasted this yellow dragon fruit. I don't know if the taste is same as the red dragon fruit. I don't remember seeing these being sold outside.
Triplets yellow dragon fruits. On the ground are the Chinese chives.
Cekur manis or Sayur manis (Malay) or mani cai (Chinese) or sweet vegetables.
Periwinkles
Seedless Jambu batu or guava seedlings.
Amaranth veggie seedlings.
Hydroponic farming.
Chinese mustard green or kai choy seedling.
Chinese mustard greens or kai choy.
Choy sum with flowers.
Very healthy and tender.
We were tempted to buy the vegetables but didn't.
Kangkong or water spinach.
Chili plants.
Wash basin in front of the wash rooms.
This is part 1, do come back tomorrow for part 2 of our visit.

Sprinkle me with the cleansing blood and I shall be clean again.
Wash me and I shall be whiter than snow.
And after you have punished me, give me back my joy again.
Don't keep looking at my sins - erase them from your sight.
Create in me a new, clean heart.
O God, filled with clean thoughts and right desires.

New Sport Equipment At the Recreational Park

We haven't been walking in the recreational park since the pandemic. We now prefer to walk around the shops. There will be less people around in the early morning as most of the shops have not opened yet. On morning, we decided to take a detour to the recreational park to check out a new sport equipment.

We were interested in this new thing above.
Looks like it is built for those interested in climbing exercises.
This is more for the older kids.
Are these for training for wall climbing?
I hope this equipment will not be under utilize and become a white elephant.
That morning, no one was using this.
A public toilet at the recreational park built in 2019 before the pandemic. It is now opened to the public after the pandemic was declared as endemic.
A dancing exercise group with music.
A dog can be seen lazing on the grass enjoying the company and music.
Another 3 dogs sleeping to the sound of music and exercise instructions.

After morning walk, we drove out to town for breakfast at Yee Fatt Dry Curry Noodle, Kampar Road, Ipoh.
Hubby's dry curry noodle with chicken curry and bbq pork.
That morning, I don't know what happened to me. Instead of ordering the usual dry curry noodle, I ordered curry noodle (wet version). You can see the layer of oil floating on top of the curry noodle. It was my own mistake and I didn't enjoy my breakfast that morning.
This is the only place that I will order the dry curry noodle.
I hope I will not repeat the same mistake again.
After sky at 2:40pm. Expecting rain any time soon.
Another lazy day for me, so didn't cook dinner.
We went to WK Claypot Chicken Rice for dinner.
This round, we ordered the ready cooked dishes with white rice.
Stewed prok rib with fermented black beans.
Fried Senangin fish or Threadfin fish.
Blanched baby choy sum.
Thanks to a friend who shared this photo of elephants when he visited the Taiping Zoo with his daughter.

Feed the flock of God; care for it willingly, not grudgingly;
not for what you will get out of it but
because you are eager to serve the Lord.
Don't be tyrants, but lead them by your good example,
and when the Head Shepherd comes,
your reward will be a never-ending share in his glory and honor.
