One evening, we went to our local hawker centre for our dinner. From the parking area, I saw a big green banner across the back of the stall. For the past few weeks we have seen a couple cleaning up the corner stall which was left empty for some time. That particular evening, I saw that the stall has started its business. It is selling Hakka Vegetarian Tea Rice or Vegetarian Lui Cha (in Chinese) which is a speciality of the Hakka people.
I like Lui Cha and I walked over to order a set for myself.
My hubby doesn't like Lui Cha because it has a green taste that comes from the many types of raw veggie and herbs.
A bowl of white rice with generous toppings of goodies which almost covered the rice. The goodies consist of preserved radish (choy poh), green vegetables, and many others, all finely cut. It also included toasted peanuts, sesame seeds & chili padi, etc.
A bowl of pounded or blended herbal green tea or soup to go with the rice.
Some likes to eat the rice and soup alternately but some like me, prefer to pour the tea over the rice and eat it together. Every mouthful is full of chewy bite because of the peanuts and cut veggies.
One set of Vegetarian Tea Rice is MYR4.50 (approx. 1.04 USD)
The stall is manned by a husband and wife team.
Since I was not sitting in front of their stall but further away at the Claypot Rice stall, I have to carry the food tray to where I will be sitting and after I have finished, I will have to bring the same back to the stall. Self-service.
The business has just started about a month ago. They were formerly operating their business near Station 18. Now they have moved and set up their business in the First Garden Hawker Centre where the rental rate is cheaper.
