Dip Dip Or Luk Luk At Tricycle Distro Studio

We have heard of this place selling "luk luk" at 40 cents a skewer. What is luk luk? It is food usually served on plates for steamboat or hot pot are instead served on skewers. Instead of placing the food into the steamboat pot for cooking, the food on skewers are dipped into a pot of boiling water until cooked and then removed to be eaten with spicy peanut satay sauce, sweet sauce or chili sauce.

We first visited this place in the month of July, 2015. That particular night we had a simple and light dinner in town and after dinner, I suddenly remembered this nearby luk luk stall. We have not been to this place before and I mentioned that it will be nice to try the luk luk. 

We found the stall opened and there were not many customers.

We got ourselves a table and for a moment, we took time to access the whole setup of the place.

First, we took a metal tray and then picked our luk luk choices from the plastic containers. Then we picked our choice of dipping sauces e.g. peanut sauce, sweet sauce or chili sauce.

Then we have to dip the skewers of luk luk items into one of these two pots of boiling water to blanch or cook the food.

These were my choice of luk luk items. There were not many variety left, so I only picked these few, just to try. Price was RM0.40 per skewer.  

For those who want to have their own boiling pot of water at their table, you can make known your request to the person in charge. Request will be granted depending on the availability of the special table to hold the pot.

Few weeks later we went back with a friend but found the place closed until further notice. We called up the contact number and were told that the place was under renovation and that it will reopen by end of October.

About 3 months later, on a rainy night about 8 pm, hubby and I revisited Tricycle Distro Studio and found it opened for business.

This was the old place. 

This is the new place with some wooden fencing. Western food is served for lunch. Luk Luk or Dip Dip is served from 4 pm to 10 pm.

We took a table next to the wall and I was seated facing the wall.
Pictures from yesteryears were pinned on the wall.

 The tables were specially made. It has a hole in the centre to hold the pot of boiling water. 

Simple and nice decorations on the wall.

Even the wooden chairs were of old fashioned design.

All raw food are now kept in this refrigerator to keep them fresh and clean.

Once seated, the pot of water is placed into the hole, over the gas burner stove under the table to keep the water boiling.

These were our chosen skewers for our supper.

Our preferred spicy peanut dipping sauce.

We added a few more extra skewers.

Noticed that the skewers portion is smaller than those sold outside.
