Product Review: Origin Superior Coolmax® Latex Pillow

Searching For A Suitable Pillow

I always have a hard time choosing from the wide range of pillows available in the market. It is not about the quality or price, it is about what suits me. Every time I buy a new pillow, I need some time to get used to the pillow. Either it is too high or too low for me or it is too hard or too soft for me. Once I get used to a pillow, I will try to use it for as long as possible but as we all know, most pillows do not last very long.

Lately, I have not been sleeping well because of my pillow. It has gone very flat and it has not been providing the right support for my head and neck. In the midst of my conversation with a friend, I complained about my flatten pillow and my need to shop for a new pillow. That was when my friend told me about this OriginSuperior Coolmax Latex Pillow. She said to me, “why not give this pillow a try? It might turn out to be the right pillow for you”. At first I was not so keen but on second thought, I changed my mind. That is how I ended up trying out this pillow and writing this review.

This Origin Superior Coolmax Latex Pillow is designed in Germany by a team of experts and is one of the products under Origin Mattress. Its founders, Shaun and Gee knew buying a mattress involves a long term investment and that shopping for one brought endless unfamiliar terminologies and pushy salesmen. Together, they ended the overwhelming and confusing experience by doing away with the unnecessary hassles to come up with Origin Malaysia. Let us check out the pillow. Size of the pillow is 65cm x 40cm x 13cm. The material used for making the pillow is Natural Latex + Coolmax® Cooling Gel. It is designed by orthopedics to alleviate pain and aches. It has breathable ventilation. It comes with a removable and washable Tencel Fabric Pillow Cover which is softer than common cotton material. It is hypoallergenic and anti-dust mites. It has a 2 years warranty. For most people, the size of the pillow is just right.

I tested out the pillow by sleeping on it for about 3 nights and I even tried napping on it in the afternoon but I just couldn’t get to sleep comfortably or soundly. I think the problem is that I am used to sleeping on my back. I find the height of the pillow too high and uncomfortable for my neck. I gave up testing on the pillow and told my hubby about it. Hubby told me to pass the pillow to him and surprisingly, he has no problem sleeping on it and finds it comfortable.

Since then, hubby has been sleeping on the pillow and he has no complain regarding the pillow. In fact, his back pain seems to lessen after sleeping on this pillow. He enjoys sleeping on the new pillow that works for him and I am now comfortably sleeping on his pillow. All worked out well for both of us because we have found our own perfect pillow.

One Simple Step Facial Cleanser From EnviroHome.

Currently, I am trying out a new Facial Cleanser product from EnviroHome. It is an eco-friendly facial cleanser, without harmful chemical and toxic additives. It is a "one simple step" facial cleanser, a blend of botanical essential oil which provides intense hydration and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It gently cleanses and melts away light makeup, sun block, dirt, oil and impurities. It also improves the texture and quality of our skin in the long term.

I wash my face with this cleanser twice a day. With a small amount of the cleanser on my palm, I gently massage onto my face using circular motion and rinse it off with water. Surviving Public Toilet Inconveniences.

I am sure we all have unpleasant experiences when using public toilets and we will try our very best to avoid using public toilets. Of course, there are public toilets that are clean and we enjoyed the convenience of using these clean toilets. But, there are still many public toilets in our country that most people would not use unless there is an urgent need or an emergency nature call.

There were times when I really could not hold it any longer and I really have no choice but to use the only toilet available. The sight and stench was terrible and there was no water to splash or to clean the mess. I had no choice but to try to hold my breath as long as possible. Sometimes, there are toilets without any toilet tissue and the water hose is just left lying on the wet and dirty floor.

If I have to use public toilet, I prefer to use the squatting ones than the sitting toilets. Sometimes, I will find shoe prints on the toilet seat! There are also times when the toilet doors do not have a latch to lock the door!

With these hangers, we can stick one of this on the wall near to us to hang our handbags. Then we can go about our private business without having to keep an eye on our handbags.

And this last item is a face mask in case the stench is too strong for us. These items are small and light, very convenient to carry in our handbags.

Besides the above items, I always make sure I have ample supply of toilet tissue in my handbags. They are especially useful when I am forced to use a public sitting toilet. I use the tissue to cover the toilet seat so that I can seat on a clean surface.

Proper maintenance of public toilets is very important. But I feel that we as users of public toilets are also responsible for leaving them clean after using them. I am sure if everyone of us take it upon ourselves to clean up our own mess, not step on the seats, wipe up any spills and most of all to flush properly, then we will all be able to enjoy much better and cleaner public toilets in Malaysia.

Lovely Scent Of Roses And Natural Mountain Air

On Friday we visited a friend who is recuperating at home from a fractured ankle bone when she fell. We had a time of fellowship and lunch with her. Upon reaching home after the visit, my hubby told me that there was a parcel waiting for me on the dining table. I was expecting the parcel to arrive after the weekend but it came earlier.

As I opened the parcel, I could smell a lovely fragrance in the air and the scent came from both the boxes of tissue. One has cherry blossom scent and the other rose essential oil. These lovely floral scent brought back memories of my maiden trip to Cameron Highlands many, many years ago. That was more than 50 years ago!

I can still remember the excitement of my first trip (as a 7 years old) to the highland and the wonderful feeling from the lovely scent of roses from the beautiful rose garden and the cool, fresh natural mountain air in my nostrils. 

Wow! The Power of Scent that reaches deep into my memory bank to bring forth this childhood memory!

Another item in the parcel is the scented candle in a glass.

Hmm...keeping it for a relaxing and romantic evening!  

 Paper scented roses! Ah! I am getting excited with ideas in my head.
 I think it would be great to present scented paper roses to my friends for the Christmas festive season. I enjoy origami and I tried making tissue roses with the scented tissues. The tissues are easy to handle, do not tear easily, yet soft to the touch. The lovely scent gives me a sense of peace and joy while folding the paper roses as a gift of love to my friends.

I just realized tomorrow is my friend's birthday. I am sending this as a self-made birthday card to her. I hope this will brighten up her birthday!
It doesn't cost much, I think most important is the thought that counts.
Anyway, we are all pensioners.

Trying Out Some Natural Cleaning Products

On Thursday morning, I was expecting some products to be delivered to my house. Out of the blue, a friend messaged me that she will be having breakfast in my area and invited me and another friend to meet her there. I had just got in from the garden and I quickly tidied myself up and drove to our regular coffee shop.

After breakfast, we drove to the market to get some fruits and then we drove home. Upon reaching home, I suddenly remembered the products! I hope I didn't missed the courier van.

Five minutes after I reached home, the courier van turned up in front of my gate. What a good timing!

Of course, I am excited to try something new, to find out whether the products are what they claimed to be! I will introduce the products one by one.

But first, let us see what EnviroHome says about its products. It says that their natural cleaning products do not contain dangerous and harmful chemicals e.g. formaldehyde and other toxins, which contribute to indoor air pollution by releasing harmful fumes called volatile organic compounds. These harmful fumes and toxin are able to enter into our bodies through our skin, through the air we breathe, and through the water we drink.

By using natural cleaning products, we are keeping our homes and laundry clean and at the same time we are also protecting our families, playing our part to keep our environment free from harmful pollutants and saving the fate of our Earth for the future generations!

EnviroHome Multi-Purpose Cleaner.

Made from 100% natural ingredients and is proven gentle. It is safe for kids and pets. One multi-purpose cleaning product for cleaning floor, kitchen units, stainless steel kitchen faucet, toilets, bathrooms, jewelries and interior of cars, etc.

*  I tried it on my kitchen stove top from which I had a hard time trying to clean off the oil stains. I sprayed on the stove surface and gently scrubbed it with a green pad scrubber. I used a rinsed clean cloth to wipe off. I am satisfied with the result because the black oil stain easily came off.

No rinse is needed. It is chemical free, bubble free, fragrance free and colorant free. There is also no slippery, soapy feeling. I used bare hands because I am not used to wearing gloves and the skin of my hands does not have any burning sensation and it does not feel dry or rough.

EnviroHome Food Wash.

It is non toxic and 99% biodegradable formula without any chemical ingredients but breaks down the pesticides, wax, insecticides, bacteria and preservatives.

It is suitable for washing vegetables and fruits and also breaks down the bacteria and fishy smell from seafood and raw meat to preserve the freshness.

*  I used it to wash my green leafy veggies because almost all veggies are sprayed with pesticides. It will be good to break down the pesticides and bacteria for easy rinsing especially those veggies that I will be eating raw.

I squeezed 2 pumps of food wash into a basin, add water to mix thoroughly and soak my veggie fully covered with water. After soaking for about 1 to 2 minutes, I washed and then rinsed the veggies twice. I don't know whether it was my imagination or not, but the veggie seemed fresher after that.

EnviroHome Laundry Detergent.

It does not harm but help saves the environment and is 99.9% biodegradable. It is safe for pregnant women and those with sensitive skins.

*   For machine wash: Pour 50 ml laundry detergent into the washer. For tough stains, apply a small amount of laundry detergent directly on the stain and gently rub it. 

*    For hand wash: Pour 25 ml laundry detergent into 5 liters of water and mix well. Soak clothes over 1 hour before washing for better result. It is foam free and no lingering soapy feel, so it helps to save electricity and water bill. Usually when I used other detergent, I will have to rinse my hands many times to get rid of the soapy feeling and later my hands will feel dry and rough.

My clothes do feel clean and odor free even though the days were cloudy with the haze and no strong sunlight to dry my clothes. 

The products are easy on my hands and I get to eat fresher and safer raw veggies. Plus I will be contributing to a safer environment by using these products. I am happy with the free products for my review.

Dim Sum Brunch At Yuk Sou Hin Restaurant, Weil Hotel, Ipoh

Thanks to the invitation from the newly opened Weil Hotel in Ipoh, we were indeed privileged to sample a thoughtfully designed and prepared menu for a delectable brunch at Yuk Sou Hin, a non halal Chinese fine dining restaurant.

Yuk Sou Hin Restaurant sets the tone for an authentic dining experience celebrating the best of contemporary Cantonese cuisine prepared by Master Chef Chung Ho Shi and his skilled team. Master Chef Chung has many years of work experience in Cantonese speciality and provincial Chinese cuisine.

From the lobby, we were ushered into a private dining room on Level 1. We were well attended to and the food introduction was clear and precise, all the time giving us ample time to take photographs before the food were being served to us individually. We bloggers have to feed our camera first.

Here is the brunch/lunch set menu. Let me introduce the food to you.

The first on the menu is a Dim Sum Combination of 4 items. From left to right:-
1) Prawn Dumpling, 2) Baked Crispy Honey Barbecued Pork Bun, 3) Siew Mai.

Steamed Prawn Dumpling - big, fresh, succulent and crunchy prawns wrapped in smooth and translucent paper thin skin.

Baked Crispy Honey Barbecued Pork Bun (Kam Pai Suet San Bao). To enjoy the thin crispy outer crust and the melt in the mouth softness, it has to be eaten when it is still hot. The filling is tasty and tender BBQ pork.

Tasty and fragrant Siew Mai with fish roe, first steamed and then pan-fried.

4th item of the Dim Sum Combination:- Steamed Vermicelli Roll with Scallop and Coriander (chee cheong fun).

Individual portion of Steam Vermicelli Roll (flat rice noodle roll). This soft and silky Steam Vermicelli Roll will not be complete without this delectable condiments to go with it.

The condiment comprises of small silvery fish, dried prawns, chili, garlic, shallots, etc.

Not to forget this addictive appetizer, consisting of guava, cherry tomato, fresh lemon rind and pickled lemon lime with taste buds awakening sauce.

Next on the menu is the Double Boiled Minced Pork Soup with Bamboo Fungus and Chinese Cabbage. The clear, soothing broth has been boiled to perfection, bringing out the natural sweetness from its ingredients.

Next, we have Master Chef's signature Smoked Duck with Lychee Wood and Tea Leaves. A pleasing aroma filled the room the moment the Smoked Duck was brought in. Special sour plum sauce to pair with the smoked duck.

This is one dish you must not miss. The skin is paper thin and crispy and there is hardly any fat left under the skin after the smoking. The meat is very tender, retaining its juiciness.

Next item is Baked Silver Cod Fish with Teriyaki Sauce.

This is good, I love this dish.

Pan-fried fish to seal its natural sweetness, sitting on pumpkin cubes, and topped with dry toasted carrot strips and sauce. Fish is very fresh and cooked just right!

Another item is the tasty Braised Ee Fu Noodles with Prawn. Specially imported noodles with big prawns - fresh, crunchy with a bouncy bite.

A great dessert to end our meal. We had Chilled Sea Coconut with Longan and Lemon Juice. It is sweet, sourish and very, very tasty.

Finally, our wonderful and satisfying meal came to an end with a group photo.

The festive season is here!!!

People from all walks of life are somewhat caught up one way or the other in celebrating this Christmas festive season. Many would have already placed their booking with hotels, restaurants or fine diners for their Christmas eve dinner or Christmas day brunch with their loved ones or just to pamper themselves for working so hard the whole year long. And for those of us who have yet to make up our mind on how and where to celebrate our Christmas season, we have a new addition to our list to choose from.

We, Ipohites have in our midst a newly opened WEIL HOTEL and it is serving up one of the most extensive culinary feasts in town for Christmas eve dinner and Christmas day brunch. Last week I had the privilege and honor, and to my pleasure to be invited to the food tasting event by this hotel.

WEIL HOTEL is situated just beside Ipoh Parade and directly opposite Sam Tet School, not forgetting my old school SMK Convent Ipoh (Main Convent) which is next to Ipoh Parade. They are all located along Jalan Sultan Idris Shah (formerly Brewster Road).

When we arrived, the media personnel were all busy aiming, zooming and clicking their cameras away on the "Merry Temptations" that were on display.

WEIL Hotel's merry temptations include:

• a scrumptious line of ice crustacean bar which includes Yabby, Slipper Lobster, Black Mussel and Fan Scallop,
• a carving station consisting Roasted Prime Rib of Beef, Roasted Chicken and Honey Glazed Turkey Ham served with the hotel's house-made sauces,
• the Cioppino Seafood Stew featuring Chef's secret recipe with ingredients consisting of fresh king prawn, scallop, squid and black mussel.
• a huge array of mouth-watering dessert selections.

• From 15 December 2014 onward, festive bakes such as Christmas Chocolate Figurines, Christmas Cookies, Traditional German Gingerbread, Stollen, pies, cakes, puddings, etc. to be enjoyed in the comfort of your home.

I can still remember the unique "apple sauce", it tasted so super.

Cooked with love, to bring out the best flavour - just for you.

Creamed Brussel Sprout - excellent, you will crave for more.

Sprinkling the joy with a wide array of festive bakes and a dash of sweet ending consisting of huge array of mouth-watering dessert selections.

I have to admit that being my first time to attend such an event, I was very excited to have the chefs sitting with us and having the opportunity to ask questions that I forgot to jot down the names of all the mouth-watering food served to us.

Open kitchen restaurant - interesting to see the chefs at work. Maybe we can learn some tips if we watch closely.

This is a wonderful opportunity to see the media personnel at work and for me to be a part of such a yummy, delicious tasting event.

We were all seated and served individually, getting to taste the selected "Merry Temptations" that excite our taste buds!
