Four days before the Chinese New Year 2016, we were again invited for lunch by our friends and the venue was again at Restoran Join Together. It is at Jalan Kledang Timur 1, Menglembu, Ipoh. We like the cook's style of cooking. Someone gave my friends 2 snakehead fishes (san yu) and early in the morning on their way to work, they sent the live fishes to the cook at the restaurant to prepare for our lunch.
Setting out from our house to pick up our friends from their work place.
Saw and snapped this mural on a nearby factory's gate.
Here we were at Restoran Join Together.
We took a table under the yellow canopy.
It was quite a long wait because of the lunch crowd who were there before us. While sipping our Chinese tea, I noticed 2 pigeons picking food scraps from the ground. I only managed to capture one of them before it flew away.
One snakehead fish was cooked with ginger and spring onions.
Crunchy beansprout stir fried with salted fish.
Another snakehead fish was "slow fried in oil" as a whole fish.
Stir fried lala (a type of mussels).
We were one of the last few customers and by the time we finished our lunch, the restaurant staffs were packing up for their break before they reopen again for dinner.
By the time we reached home, it looked like it will be raining soon.
It was time to take in the laundry.
The LORD is king! Let the earth rejoice!
Let the farthest coast lands be glad. Dark clouds surround him.
Righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne.
(Psalm 97:1-2, NLT)

DeleteOur favorite Japanese restaurant closes from 3-4 every day. I found that odd, but I assume it's their tradition. An hour is too short to go home and come back again and it doesn't look like they have a residence attached to the business.
ReplyDeleteOver here, the normal break hours are 3-5 for every working day. Probably it is to give the workers a break or maybe a nap. They also need the time to prepare for dinner. Have a great week!
DeleteThe clam shells looks so pretty and tasty. I love sea food. happy Valentine day nancy.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
JB
Happy Valentine's Day to you too, Julia. Have a happy week!
DeleteHow much did the restaurant charge for their service to cook the two fish?
ReplyDeleteAll I heard from my friends was that the charge was very reasonable. My friends are regulars there.

DeleteSnakehead fish????...what do we call it in Hockkien?...i would absolutely love that plate of crunchy taugeh. Always heard people praising to the sky about Ipoh taugeh. All looks great.
ReplyDeleteI only know it is called "san yu" in Cantonese. It is usually taken by patients after their operation and the fish is believed to bring about healing for the wounds.
DeleteI love the sky in these shots and I LOVE that mural.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Rose. Have a lovely week!
DeleteSnakehead fish? Is it the fish that people will eat after their operation where they said it's good for the healing?
ReplyDeleteYes, Sharon. You got it right, this is the fish.
