After a short drive around the place, we noticed most of the eatery were not opened yet. We then came to this eatery that is next to the entrance gate of Kampung Baru Sauk. This is the Restoran Baru Lau Kai Ikan Sungai along the main road. Friend B saw this on Facebook and she did some homework on this eatery.

Wolf Herring (Sai Toh Yu in Cantonese) fish balls. 10 pieces deep fried fish balls and 10 pieces of steamed fish balls. RM0.60 per piece (approx. 0.15 USD).
Stir Fried Romaine Lettuce with garlic. Very tender and fresh.
Steamed fresh water Wolf Herring's belly (Sai Toh Yu lam) with sweet, spicy sauce.
The fish belly is sliced very thinly and steamed just right.
Steamed fresh water Prawns with egg white. Total cost inclusive of white rice for 3 people = RM 118 (approx. 28.98 USD)

DeleteI had never heard of wolf herring and had to go look it up. From looking the pieces of wolf herring in your dish, I thought it was a very small fish but instead, it has a long body as compare to the true herring. I bet it was delicious. I love fish and seafood.
