A Tobouchina Plant Growing In My Garden.

Few months back, I was weeding my garden one morning and I came across a small plant just about 3 to 4 inches tall growing in one of the flower pots. The leaves are like a plant I have seen before while we were in Fraser's Hill. I dug out the small plant and transferred it to a small pot.
I didn't know the name of the plant so I googled and found that it is called Tobouchina. Some of its common names are Glory Bush, Glory Tree and Princess Flowers.
This familiar looking plant has grown beautifully in its own pot.
It is a fast growing plant and enjoys full sun.
One fine day, I noticed signs of flower buds.
The bud nearest to the fence will be blooming soon.
More buds.
The plant is full of purple buds.
Close up view of the flower buds and I caught a black beetle on a leaf.
Feeling excited waiting for the first flower to open.
Ahh! Here it is! Such a pretty flower.
The big buzzing black bees with yellow stripes love these flowers. I couldn't get any proper snapshots because they were too busy moving from flower to flower.
The branches are fighting for space with my other plants. So far I haven't noticed any seeds forming. I don't know how this seedling got into my garden in the first place.
I am glad to have this plant in my garden. It is easy to grow and easy to take care and the flowers are plentiful and pretty. Thank God for blessing me with this Glory Bush with Princess flowers.

  7. Hello Nancy!:) The flower is so beautiful, and might even have brought the seed back on your clothing from your visit to Fraser's Hill, and it self seeded in your garden. Thank you for sharing the various stages of it's growth, and all the lovely blooms.:)

  9. Are you sure that beetle is black? It looks quite colourful to me and suspiciously like a rosemary beetle. If so they are very destructive. Love the plant. Take care Diane

    1. Thank you, Diane. I don't know whether it is really black. I didn't take a close look, only saw it from the photo. I do hope it is not the destructive type of beetle. Have a happy day!

  10. That is a pretty plant with a fantastic flower. I had to google and found out that it has a Finnish name too and might survive here as house plant.

  13. Looks similar to Singapore rhododendron or sendudok in the Malay language. Birds like to eat the fruit and spread the tiny seeds with their droppings. Humans may also eat the fruit which leaves a blue or purple stain on the tongue.
