Two Fridays ago, we had a lunch gathering at Restoran Yum Yum which I have posted here. While we were enjoying our lunch, someone suggested that it will be good to have a simple steamboat gathering during the long weekend holiday. Most of us were available and we agreed to it.
Some of us met up early for breakfast and then headed to the wet market to buy all the ingredients. It was just an excuse to come together, chit chat, joke, laugh and have some fun. We call this building of relationship.

Working as a team made preparation so much faster and easier.
We bought fresh crabs and prawns.
There was tofu on the left and vegetable acar on the right which was my idea. Saw the vegetable acar at the tofu stall, I couldn't resist. I just had to buy one packet.
Short and fat beansprout on the top and followed by fish balls and stuffed beancurd.
4 pieces of chicken thighs, removed the bones and cut into pieces. Some wanted chicken eggs.
Chinese cabbage and sweet corn contributed to the sweetness of the soup.
Green veggie and Chinese cabbage.
We had crispy fried garlic with oil, canned anchovies sambal.
Ready made Sambal Hae Bee (dried shrimp spicy prawn paste). We also have rice vermicelli and dried noodle which were not in the photos.
While the ingredients were being prepared and laid on the table, someone prepared the soup base for the hot pot with the chicken thigh bones and sweet corns. The soup took some time to simmer to bring out the flavour. The sweet corn were taken out for munching and the cooking of the other ingredients commenced.
The food prepared was just enough for 10 people. Great estimation and nothing was wasted. We then helped to clear and wash up before we all left for home. After a satisfying and filling steamboat lunch, my friend and I were ready to do some walking in old town. To find out where we went, do remember to come back for tomorrow's post.
How do you know what is going to happen tomorrow?
For the length of your lives is as uncertain as the morning fog
- now you see it; soon it is gone.
What you ought to say is, "If the Lord wants us to,
we shall live and do this or that."
(James 4:14-15, The Living Bible-TLB)
