Yum Cha (Coffee & Snacks) At The Happy 8 Cafe, Ipoh Old Town.

It is only the 2nd day of the New Year. We considered this as a New Year celebration as we had our first "yum cha" or translated "drink tea" session this New Year. After having taken our dinner, washed up and taken our bath, we were ready to go for our "yum cha" session. Our friend came over to pick us up and we went to a place in old town which we haven't been before.
The town was rather quiet. I suppose all the New Year merry makers have left town and all have gone back to work.
We were surprised to find this place empty.
This place is called The Happy 8 Cafe. Can you see the big number 8?
46, Market Street, Ipoh old town.
If I am not mistaken, the upper floor is used as a hotel. We had the whole place to ourselves and were able to take some snapshots to share with you here in this post.
If you like, you can choose to sit here where the floor is thick metal mesh over a shallow water pond. you can even see some fishes through the metal mesh
Or you can sit here with the horses' back as your tables.
It is a long table with the 2 horses placed back to back,
My eyes caught sight of the two glass containers which are used for rearing small fishes.
Tree trunk used for holding wine bottles.
Wall decoration
Wooden door with the Chinese character for door.
It looks like 2 Ps facing each other.
More wall decorations
A closer look at the pyramid on the wall.
This is where our coffee and snacks were prepared
Pork free menu
First we ordered 3 cappuccino for MYR 30.88
Then followed by Cheesy Nachos @ MYR 9.43
I supposed these should be enough for 3 people.
But I was tempted by the cakes.
So I added a slice of Black Forest Cake @ MYR 11.92
And 4 Chicken Wings, very well marinated @ MYR 11.15
Finally, I ordered a small bottle of mineral water @ MYR 2.57
Total cost of Yum Cha = MYR 76.90
(inclusive of 10% service charge and 6% GST)
It was a weekday and the place closes at 10 pm but we got carried away and left slightly after 10 pm.
Weekdays set lunches for weekdays from "de Classroom"
And de Classroom is directly opposite The Happy 8 Cafe.

For we naturally love to do evil things that are just the opposite
from the things that the Holy Spirit tells us to do;
and the good things we want to do when the Spirit has his way with us
are just the opposite of our natural desires.
These two forces within us are constantly fighting
each other to win control over us, and our wishes
are never free from their pressures.
(Galatians 5:17, The Living Bible-TLB)

  5. AHA! I spot some American food! Cheese nachos and chicken wings. We have restaurants here that only serve wings! And nachos are very popular! This is a quirky and pretty place. Lots of creativity and thought went into it! The outside is beautiful. And I love the horse tables! Lots to look at while waiting for your food.

  14. You and your friends must have had a very nice chit chat over the meal that you got carried away.

So creative to use horses as tables but agree with Mun that the exterior of the place looks a little spooky.

I would love to have the chicken wings, yum yum.

    1. Looks like it. The designer could probably be one of the share holders or the big boss himself!
