This was a Thursday and we had a lunch appointment with a long time friend, my ex-colleague and ex-housemate.
Morning sky at about 7:40am.
Our friend wanted to taste the food in Lawan Kuda, Gopeng and so we took her to this restaurant. This photo was taken few years ago when we were here for dinner. Lawan Kuda is known for snakehead fish dishes, so we ordered 1 fish. The restaurant will use the fish to cook 2 dishes.
Fish meat slices cooked with ginger slices, onions, and spring onion.
Soup using the bony parts of the fish, tofu and salted vegetable.
The soup was very flavourful.
Chinese kai lan vegetable sauteed with garlic and salt.
After having ordered the food, I took our friend out to the side of the restaurant to show her the vegetable garden. Most of the green vegetable served in the restaurant comes from this garden. After seeing the vegetables, my friend wanted to order another vegetable dish.
Water spinach with sambal belacan.
Total cost of lunch for 3 people = RM90.60
(incl. 3 small rice & warm water).
After our lunch, we went opposite where there is a roadside cendol stall. Usually the cendol will be sold out by 2pm but that day, it was still open at 2.30pm so my friend has the chance to enjoy this cendol ice.
This bowl of cendol ice consists of the green jelly made from rice flour, kidney beans, palm sugar syrup, coconut milk and shaved ice.

Have you seen a coconut shaped like a watermelon or a squash?
Have you seen these long papayas?
I have seen but have not tasted any.
Our friend found this bug on a mat in her house.
On a closer look, she saw that the bug was laying eggs on the mat.
Can you see the 4 eggs?
The back of the bug looks like a shield or a face mask.
With Google Lens, it was identified as the Brown Marmorated Stink.
If crushed, it will release a stinky smell.
Linking to Saturday's Critters.
We are pressed on every side by troubles, but not crushed and broken.
We are perplexed because we don't know why things happen as they do,
but we don't give up and quit.
(2 Corinthians 4:8, The Living Bible-TLB)
Yes, it is a Shield/Stink Bug. They are evrrywhere here, and have no natural enemies, so are invasive. How amazing that you came upon it laying eggs! It is awesome that you can see the food you eat growing right there!
ReplyDeleteIt is good to have freshly harvested vegetables from the garden to the table when we dine in this restaurant.
DeleteHello Nancy, :=) All the prepared food looks delicious, I have never seen Coconuts that look like Melon, or tasted Papayas that shape. The bug however is a common sight, but the photos of it laying eggs are phenomenal.
ReplyDeleteAll the best.
I myself haven't come across this bug. If not for my friend sharing the photos with me, I don't even know this type of bug exists.
DeleteEx-housemate sounds like really long-term!
ReplyDeleteI had but one nice guy in all the places I was in. Nice, not more, though.
Lucky you! :-)
The garden looks fantastic. And no, I never saw those fruits/plants for real.
Oh, what a mean way to leave the earth, LOL.
Thank you, Iris. Ex-housemate when we were still singles.
DeleteThe plate of fish meat slices looks good, the soup too. Ooooo...cendol! I want!!!
ReplyDeleteThe soup tastes great and the fish meat slices very nice. Cendol is best! Lol!
DeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteWow, they are weird shaped coconuts. The bug laying eggs, that is an amazing capture. The restaurant's garden looks wonderful. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, enjoy your weekend. PS, thank you for leaving me a comment.
Thank you, Eileen for hosting. Have a wonderful week.
DeleteInteresting bug! Never seen one like that around. But then, I'm not glad to see any bugs .
ReplyDeleteIt is my first time seeing this bug.
DeleteRemember you wrote on snakehead fish dishes few times before. Must be local dish over there.
ReplyDeleteAll dishes looked good, make me hungry at this hour. Lol.
We usually have snakehead fish dishes only in Lawan Kuda, Gopeng. Not popular in Ipoh.
DeleteOoh Nancy. Bug eggs. I'd rid of them quickly.
ReplyDeleteCruisin Paul
Glad the bug wasn't in my house. I hope my friend got rid of the bug and eggs from her house.
DeleteHe looks like he's dressed for Halloween! I love the drinks you have with your meals and the yummy fruit!
ReplyDeleteThank you and I agree with you about the Halloween costume. Lol!
DeleteThank you Nancy for the information about plants and insects. I have not seen coconut shaped like a watermelon or papaya that long. Yes can see the 4 eggs. The back of the insect really does look like a mask. Your friend must be very happy with the food at Restoran J.J. Fatt, Lawan Kuda, Gopeng. Good to make 2 dishes with one fish. No wastage. Your friend must be very happy with all the food, right?
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mun. Yes, she is happy and is going to take her daughter there when she returns to visit her parents.
DeleteVery interesting restaurant. It all looks appetizing, especially the cendol ice. Never saw a Stink Bug in person.
ReplyDeleteWhenever there is a chance we will stop for the cendol ice.
DeleteThat is quite a restaurant, the food so exotic and great tasting, and very healthy. Loved the pics your friend had of the different looking fruits and vegetables.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Yogi. Have a great week.
DeleteIt is a serious agricultural pest. I hope your friend has it exterminated so it doesn't reproduce and wreak havoc in her neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteI hope she had done it by the time she reads this post. Thank you, Norma.
DeleteHope your friend enjoys her meal.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on and stay safe
Thank you, Dora. Oh yes, she enjoyed the meal very much.
DeleteInteresting bug. Never had fish soup...and that garden does look good.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Margaret.
DeleteThanks for your sharing...
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome. Have a great week.
DeleteAn unusual insect to my eyes.
ReplyDeleteVery unusual indeed.
DeleteThat looks like a delightful lunch with a friend.
ReplyDeleteStinkbugs, ugh. Those i try to gently shoo away as quickly as i can.
I will usually gently scoop it up with a piece of paper and take it outside far far from my house.
DeleteHeh no surprise she wanted another veg dish after seeing the fresh veggies growing like that!
ReplyDeleteI just saw a papaya tree like that. Don't know the owner so no chance of getting to try the fruit.
I saw such papaya tree growing by the roadside of a house but now the tree is gone.
DeleteMuy buena la comida. Un buen árbol de papaya. Besos.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Teresa.
