I have been missing in action after my last post on the 18th January, 2023 and that is about 4 days. I had to do the last minute spring cleaning because the cleaner woman's daughters were sick and couldn't come. I had to do the last minute shopping plus getting ready some Chinese New Year snacks.

Most of the coffee shops in our area are closed for 2 days and only 2 shops are opened and they were overflowing with customers. In the end, we went to a Mamak shop for a relaxed breakfast to avoid the crowd.
I ordered tosai with plain water and hubby ordered roti canai with teh tarik (Forgot to snap photos) Elder son ordered the above roti canai sarang burung with kopi ais. Younger son still sleeping in his room.

Seafood Lunch At Restoran Thong Lok, Tanjung Tualang
It was a Monday and our day started early as usual with our morning walk.
Morning sky at 7:05am
After I have swept my porch area and watered my plants, we got ready and waited for our friends. We were to gather at my house at about 10am.
We stopped at Pusing town to buy these pillow shaped bak chang or glutinous rice dumplings. It was RM7 and now selling at RM8 and the dumplings were not as tasty as before.
We reached Tg Tualang at about 11:40am. This is part of the small town.
Friends at the fruit stall.
This is Pisang Tanduk or Banana Horn. The hand is to show the size of the bananas. Pisang Tanduk is usually used for cooking e.g. making banana chips.
Opposite the fruit stall is the market.
A few restaurants were closed on Monday so we came to Restoran Thong Lok for lunch.
A worker plucking the paku pakis (wild ferns) in front of the restaurant.
Live fresh water prawns swimming in the aquarium.
Tourists come to Tg Tualang for its fresh water prawns, reared in fresh water ponds or rivers.
A friend ordering the dishes and we had the following dishes for 7 people.
Paku pakis salad with tiny dried shrimps topping.
Fried tofu.
Fried fresh water prawns.
Steamed fresh water prawns.
Fried clams or lala.
Steamed fish (from the cat fish family).
Steamed free range chicken with blended ginger sauce.
Total cost of lunch for 7 people = RM272
(incl. 4 small portion rice and Chinese tea)
Pink/Purple Spider Lilies.
Saw this at the Prawn Village when we visited after lunch at Restoran Thong Lok to snap some photos. Initially, we wanted to have lunch here since we haven't been here before but was told they only open at 3pm on weekdays.
The colour of the lilies looks like purplish pink

Look at the lilies! They don't toil and spin,
and yet Solomon in all his glory was not robed as well as they are.

provide clothing for you, you doubters?

Lunch At Restoran Fan Chen Mei, Bercham
After our visit to Gunung Lang Recreational Park which I shared in yesterday's post (please click here if you are interested), we had lunch at Restoran Fan Chen Mei, 3a, Persiaran Medan Bercham 3, Taman Bercham Baru, Ipoh. We were the first customers and we occupied the biggest table. There were 7 of us. We were early and we have plenty of time to go through the menu. Our friends finally settled for the following dishes.
Ordered 2 types of soup. One is the double steamed coconut chicken soup. I didn't snap photo of this soup.
The 2nd soup is this spicy sour fish maw soup Foo Chow style.
Tofu with minced pork.
Stinky beans with minced pork and sambal belacan.
The beans were tender and everyone enjoyed this dish.
Steamed fish (I don't know the name of this fish).
Fried soy sauce prawns.
Everyone enjoyed the delicious lunch. Hubby's friend and family will be returning to this restaurant the next evening with his siblings.
~~~~~
The following photos were taken at the Gunung Lang Recreational Park.
There are many monkeys on the other side of the lake but this one stood out from the rest. It wasn't afraid of people and came quite close to us.
It was watching hubby and probably expecting food from hubby.
Good thing it didn't disturb us because we were not carrying any food items except for some bottle of drinking water.
It didn't mind when I pointed my phone camera in its direction.
Finally, it decided to give me a good pose by looking directly into the camera. Thank you, my little friend.
Fried Chicken Wings, Fried Prawns, Steamed Egg With Minced Pork
As we were driving out to the coffee shop, I saw this .....
The sun rising from behind the moutain at 7:48am.
Hubby had to slow down for me and this is the best shot I got.
~~~~~
Breakfast
I ordered wonton noodle with bbq pork and minced meat dumplings.
I also ordered coffee which I shared with hubby.
Hubby ordered shredded chicken noodle (kai si hor fun). The boss was in good mood and he topped the noodle witth some dried scallop. Hubby ordered a glass of Chinese tea which we shared.
~~~~~
Lunch for 3 people: Just me and my 2 sons.
Hubby had a small lunch gathering with his old coursemates in Bercham.
Deep fried pre-marinated chicken wings.
Sauteed Chinese kai lan with garlic and salt.
Just 2 dishes plus some leftover which we need to clear from the fridge.
~~~~~
Afternoon snack.
Steamed glutinous rice cake with grated coconut.
Elder son haven't eaten this for a long time so I went out to buy some grated coconut from the Buntong wet market which is a short drive from my house.
I added a pinch of salt to the grated coconut.
Scooped out the steamed sticky glutinous rice into small balls and rolled with grated coconut.
~~~~~
Dinner for 4 people.
Deep fried prawns coated with oyster and soy sauce.
Ingredient for sauce: oyster and soy sauce, sugar and salt to taste, and cooking wine.
Salted egg yolk beans and carrot strips.
This is my first try and I will need to try again.
It didn't turn out as expected but the taste was quite good.
Steamed eggs with minced pork, drizzled with garlic oil.
I haven't prepared this dish for a long, long time.
Three dishes plus some leftover chicken wings from lunch.
~~~~~
Doggie photos for Saturday's Critters.
Saw this dog taking a walk in front of my house.
He met up with another dog coming from the opposite direction.
I don't know what they said to each other in their doggie language.
There was no barking or baring of teeth at each other.
Then they parted and went their own ways.
