Lunch At Bao Bao Golden House Restaurant

This was a Tuesday and it was morning walk as usual.

Hubby and I had lunch with a friend who dropped by for a half day's visit. We decided to try a place which we haven't been to because I felt like having porridge. We have been here once before, that was before they changed ownership or the name of the restaurant.

We ordered the seafood porridge consisting of prawns, fish slices, clams and squids. This image is from the menu and we were expecting the porridge to be like this when it was served.

Surprise! The porridge was served and it was nothing like the image in the menu. But it was alright because the porridge was very tasty. Our friend insisted on ordering 2 side dishes.

This yummy-licious lunch was a treat from our friend.

For dinner, I cooked bak kut teh or herbal pork rib with pig stomach. The herbs came in a packet which I bought from our nearby Chinese herbal shop. For dinner, it was only bak kut teh and steamed brown rice. Kept back half portion for the next day meal.

Penang Nyonya Kuih & Seafood Porridge At Matang

Before we left Penang, we had one more place to visit. Its the Kuih Culture because we wanted to taste their Nyonya kuih, laksa, cendol and ice kacang.

The banner shows that their business starts at 7 am but when we walked in just before 12 noon, they were not quite ready.

The rest were still being prepared in the kitchen.

Since we were there, we might as well order some kuih to try.

We did enjoying tasting the 4 types of kuih.

We didn't get to taste their laksa and cendol because both items were not ready. Hopefully, we might have a chance to do so on our next trip to Penang.

After Kuih Culture, we started our journey to Matang at about 12:20 pm. We stopped at the Lighthouse Seafood Restaurant.

We ordered dried fried fishes (don't know the name).

Oyster omelette.

Seafood rice porridge consisting of fish balls and sharkfish meat (ikan yu).

There were big chunks of fish meat inside the porridge.

Lunch At Restoran Light House Seafood In Matang, Taiping

It was a public holiday on the 30th July. We, consisting of 5 people went on a "free & easy" day trip. We started from Ipoh about 8:00 am, had breakfast in Restaurant Pulau Sembilan after picking up a friend. Then we drove to Taiping and had an early lunch in Matang, Taiping.

After lunch, we visited the newly opened Ikea Store in Batu Kawan, Penang and spent around 2 hours at Ikea. Then we had an early dinner at Prawn Village in Bukit Tambun, Penang before driving back to Ipoh.

Initially, we wanted to order "kai si hor fun" but the waiting time was about 45 mins. We didn't want to wait that long, so our craving for "kai si hor fun" has to be put on hold. Sigh!

I ordered this Mee Rebus for the first time and I enjoyed it very much.

We reached Taiping about 10:50 am and our friend drove us around Taiping town and the Taiping Lake Garden.

Our friend stopped his car so that I could take this snapshot of this mural - tin mining and a "dulang" (meaning tray) washer for tin ore.

We were ahead of the lunch crowd and service was quite fast.

We ordered the following dishes for our early lunch.

Seafood porridge - we requested for Chinese Silver pomfret, prawns, and fish balls.

We ordered this pot of porridge for 3 people which was more than enough for 5 people.

Deep fried fishes (cai yu zhai in Cantonese) - very crispy on the outside.

The thick shells weighed more than the clam meat.

And a plate of blanched green vegetable.

Our lunch for 5 people costs RM 132.00
